ARREST

Eucal Richards of Pond Road was on Tuesday 2nd September 2008 arrested and charged with the offence of assault, an offence that was committed on 1st September 2008.

A 14 year old juvenile from Taylors Housing Project was on Friday 29th August 2008 arrested and charged with the offence of building breaking and larceny. The offence was committed on 26th August 2008.

On Friday 29th August 2008 Newrish Nital of Green Lands was arrested and charged with three counts of obtaining credit by fraud. Offences were committed between 1st and 4th April 2008.

The persons arrested were released on bail and are expected to appear in court shortly.

COURT CONVICTIONS

Rashiel Lewis James of Middle Island appeared before the District ‘B’ Magistrate Court on Tuesday 2nd September 2008 to answer charges of careless driving, driving without insurance and driving without a driver’s licence. He was convicted and fined $600.00 in 2 months or 1 month in prison for careless driving, he was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence for six months for driving without insurance, and cautioned for driving with a driver’s license.

A 17 year old juvenile from Old Road also appeared before the court and was convicted for beating Tachi Samuel of Old Road. He was placed on a bond for six months in addition to being placed under a curfew from 7 pm to 5 a.m for a three months.

Javil Warner of Old Road appeared before the said court and was convicted for the offences of riding a bicycle without a bell and without a light and he was severely cautioned.

Kevin Boone of Sandy Point appeared before the court and was fined $400.00 for the offence of possession of cannabis. The fine is to be paid within two months or he will serve one month in prison.

A 14 year old juvenile from Sandy Point also appeared before the court and was convicted for the offence of house breaking and larceny and was ordered to repay a total of $1,690.00 to Linda Douglas of Sandy Point, whose house was broken into by the juvenile. This fine must be paid in four monthly installments or the juvenile will return to court for sentencing. A repayment of $130.00 U.S must also be paid to Ms. Douglas within 14 days.

On Monday September 1st 2008 a 15 year old juvenile from New Road Project appeared before the District ‘A’ Juvenile Court, charged with wounding Threlston Chumney of Buckley’s Estate on April 1st 2008 on his neck with a knife. He was convicted and placed on probation for 12 months, during this time the juvenile was ordered to keep the peace and be of good behavior. In addition, he is to perform 200 hours of community service at the Stapleton Police Station, and observe a curfew from 7 p.m to 7 a.m daily.

A 15 year old juvenile from Prickley Pear Alley also appeared before the said court and was convicted for beating Latasha Mulraine of St. Pauls Village on 1st May 2008, he was sentenced to 14 days in prison.

Also appearing before the court was a 16 year old juvenile from Sprott Street. The juvenile answered to the charge of being found in the enclosed premises of Barbara Sobrattie of Soho Village on 15th may 2008 and was convicted and sentenced to three months in prison. The sentence is to run concurrently with the present prison sentence he is serving.

POLICE INVESTIGATE TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

Police are investigating a traffic accident which occurred along the Island’s Main Road in the vicinity of CONTEC, at about 5:00 pm August 30th 2008. The accident involved motor car PA1282 driven by Clive Wilson of Cabbage Tree Cayon and motor car P2694 driven by Etson Dore of Lr. Cayon. Investigations reveal that PA1282 was travelling towards Basseterre when it collided head on with P2694 which was travelling in the opposite direction. The front portion of both vehicles were extensively damaged. Both drivers and a passenger in PA1282 sustained injuries and were taken to the JNF Hospital by the EMS, where they were treated and later discharged. Investigations are continuing.

SECURITY FORCES CONDUCT SEARCHES...FIND CRACK COCAINE

On Thursday 28th August 2008 members of the Police Force and St.Kitts-Nevis Defence Force conducted joint search patrols throughout the entire Basseterre area for illegal drugs, arms and ammunition. Sixteen (16) individuals along with several abandoned houses were searched. A quantity of marijuana was found in the Trafalgar area but no one was arrested for the find.

The security forces also executed a search warrant on the premises of Erickson Williams of Pitcairn Street, Newtown, for illegal drugs, arms and ammunition. A quantity of crack-cocaine was found. Hannibal Bassue who was at the premises at the time of the search was arrested and charged with the offences of possession of crack-cocaine and possession of crack-cocaine with intent to supply.

Andrew Lynch of Church Ground, Nevis, was on Wednesday 3rd September 2008 arrested and charged with the offence of larceny. The offence was committed on 30th August 2008.

CONVICTIONS

Llewellyn Williams of Fountain Village, Nevis, appeared before the District ‘C’ Magistrate Court on Wednesday 3rd September 2008 and was convicted for the offences of driving without due care and attention and for driving without a valid and unexpired driver’s licence. He was fined $500.00 in one month or one month in prison, for careless driving, and was cautioned for driving without a valid licence.

Phillip Lloyd of Mattingley Heights appeared before the District ‘A’ Magistrate Court on Wednesday 3rd September 2008 to answer the charges of possession of firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of cannabis.

He was convicted and sentenced to three years in prison for possession of firearm, two years for possession of ammunition, and one year for possession of cannabis. The sentences are to run consecutively. The offences were committed on 31st August 2006 when Police executed a search warrant on the premises of Lloyd and found the items on the said property.

Lloyd appealed the decision of the court, and was granted bail pending the determination of his appeal at the next sitting of the Court of Appeal.
