25 YEARS OF FAILURE OF OUR NEVISIAN POLITICIANS

Unfortunately over the last 50 years but especially in these last 25 years, we have seen a bunch of politicians in Nevis who have no conviction or no philosophical belief in the political sovereignty of Nevis – well except for Dr Simeon Daniel of course.

Even today in the twilight of his years the man still hold fast to his conviction and is still passionate about Nevis’s sovereignty. But since Daniel exited from politics, we have not since seen any grand visionary ideas like his “Secession at all cost”.

Yes, some have expressed some lukewarm desire for Nevis’s independence but for the most part it is truly obvious it is not something that is dear and passionate to them.

Dr Daniel laid the framework for Nevis with clause 113 (the constitutional right for Nevis to secede) and the creation of the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) but no one since then has taken the baton of sovereignty and carried it unwaveringly to the finish line.

If you ask probably all of them where would they like to see Nevis in the next 25 years they probably can't give you a substantial answer such as a sovereign politically independent Nevis who is leading the Eastern Caribbean in its technological and financial services and who is on its way to becoming the Luxembourg of the West.

Now look at Nevis today after 25 years in this unholy phony federation with our beloved island still being held at ransom by our own Nevisian politicians who continue to let Kittitians exploit us. I can safely say the only thing we have gotten from St. Kitts in the last 25 years is an upsurge of crime from their notorious criminal and murdering record which has now found its way over to our once totally pristine crime-free isle.

Our Nevisian politicians seem to have no care in the world about the injustices we face in this federation. No mention of it anywhere from either NRP or CCM on the 19th of September which should have been a day of reckoning for Nevisians.

All they concentrated on was what they were going to wear to the car racing or if Robelto Hector had already secured their VIP seat at Tempo. But yet Nevis is still drifting along in this 'chupit' pseudo federation like the ugly step child who no one wants but who has no conviction of its own to leave.

Yes on this the 25th anniversary of independence from colonialism, I am very sorry to say I cannot truly share in the celebration as a Nevisian. That is why my conscience didn’t allow me to bring myself to attend the St. Kitts Nevis independence celebration here in Washington DC some three weekends ago.

On the other hand our Nevisian politicians would easily jump up and celebrate with Kittitians at the drop of a dime, the worst and the most pitiful of the lot is our Premier Joseph Parry. I still can’t get over the fact of watching all of them marching down to St. Kitts like leprechauns to sit in the $32.5 million cricket stadium after Nevis was cheated out of its fair share (no conviction or no shame whatsoever).

Yes, last week’s Independence Day was a day of mixed emotions for Obi as he waits patiently to see a visionary Nevisian politician with some conviction and some testicular fortitude to step up for Nevis unwaveringly and pursue independence for Nevis at all cost. That politician must know that good leaders create a vision, articulate the vision, passionately own the vision, and relentlessly drive it to completion at all cost!
