DIGICEL FUNDS COTTON GROUND IMPROVEMENTS

By John Denny

Observer Reporter

(Cotton Ground, Nevis) – Member of the St. Thomas Festival Committee and a few volunteers from the Nevis Prison Farm got together on Sept. 25 to paint the retaining wall at the Cotton Ground Community Center. The volunteers painted the wall Digicel red and the company will paint their logo on at a later date.

The effort was part of a Caribbean-wide Community Development Week sponsored by Digicel, according to event coordinator and Oalie Beach General Manager Vaden Jones.

“Digicel sponsored our festival last December and it is only fitting that they should put their brand on the wall,” said Mr. Jones. “The graffiti on the wall is disgusting and this is going to improve the look of the neighborhood. Once Digicel puts their logo on, we plan to sell some of the other sections to advertisers.”

Digicel donated $3,000 towards materials for painting the wall. All the labor was donated by volunteers.
