(Basseterre, St. Kitts)The bloodletting continued
in St. Kitts, much to the chagrin of many, when three
men were murdered in two separate incidents in three
days by armed assailants. All of the murders were
committed using motor cars in what seems to be the
new style and method employed by trigger-happy gang
members.
Collin Izum Matthew, 46, died after receiving multiple
gunshot wounds in broad daylight on March 2.
Police investigations reveal that Mr. Matthew was
driving a car with a rental number plate along Catherine
Julius Street in Newtown at about 2:30 pm on March
2, when he was fired upon by persons or a person in
another car.
Mr. Matthew received multiple gunshot injuries and
was taken to the J.N.F. Hospital where he died at
5:20 pm on that same day while receiving treatment.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact
cause of death.
No suspect is in custody and investigations are ongoing.
Less than 48 hours later, Kwesi Twells, 20, of Manchester
Avenue, Newtown and Akimba Whyte, 19, of Cardin Avenue,
were gunned down on March 4 in Haynes Smith Village
on the Infirmary Road in the vicinity of Rasco Tec
shop about 1:15 pm by masked men, who then made good
their escape in an unidentified motor car, the Police
say. They received multiple gunshot wounds.
They were pronounced dead at the scene by the district
medical doctor, Dr. Reginald OLoughlin.
No suspects are in custody for these murders. However,
the Police have named three men who are wanted for
questioning with the recent murders. They are Denzil
Para Williams, Sheldon Sword
Cannonier and Bernard Berry.
These individuals are armed and considered
dangerous, and should not be approached by members
of the public, the police statement said.
The Police are appealing to persons knowing the whereabouts
of these individuals to call the Criminal Investigation
Department at telephone number 465-2241 ext. 220,
230 or 236.
Persons with information on these murders can also
call the Police emergency number 911 or the National
Joint Headquarters at 466-9279 ext. 246.
A reward of $10, 000.00 will be given for information
leading to an arrest and prosecution.
The murder of Matthew, Twelves and Whyte follows
sharply on the heels of 18 year old Jusan Hendricks,
who died after he was shot multiple times by an armed
assailant at Fort Thomas Road in Irish Town on February
24.
The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has recorded
seven murders for the year. Up to the same time last
year, there was only one murder.
No one has been charged in the seven murders for
this year.
