| NEVISIAN RUNNER VERNICE WATTLEY RANKS
IN P. RICO 10K
Vernice Wattley of Hardtimes, Gingerland, placed
69th out of 4,130 female runners at the 2009 edition
of the World Best 10K held in Puerto Rico on Sunday
1st March 2009. 10,651 runners, including 6,521 men,
competed in the world renowned 10K event, with Vernice
placing 849th overall.
Her net time (from passing the start line to the
finish line) was 49 mins 38 secs with a pace of 8
min 16 sec per mile and an overall time of 51 min
15 secs. Vernice participated in previous World Best
10K events, the latest in 2007.
She is a renowned middle and long distance runner
who still holds multiple St. Kitts - Nevis National
Records: 1,500m (4:53.00) set in St. John's, Antigua
at a Leeward Islands Senior Championship Meet in 1995
and the half marathon record (2:02.44) set in 2003.
She has also competed in many 10K events and half
marathons for Nevis and for the Federation.
