(Charlestown, Nevis) Under the theme Bridging
the Gap to Marine Tourism Development, the Nevis
Air and Sea Port Authority will be hosting Marine
Awareness Day today, Friday May 1, starting at 10
a.m. at the waterfront in Charlestown.
The objective of the function is to create awareness
to visitors and locals of various marine activities
at NASPA, thereby encouraging return visitors and
new arrivals by sea, According to NASPA General Manager
Spencer Hanley.
When people say NASPA, they are often focusing
on the airport, but the airport side is in sort of
a downturn right now, especially with the temporary
suspension of the American Eagle flight. The purpose
of Marine Awareness Day is to up the tempo to the
sea part of NASPA, said Mr. Hanley.
We want to showcase some of our partners that
make up the sea part of NASPA.
The event will resemble a trade show where partners
can display their wares and services. Nearly 20 exhibitors
are expected to be on display.
Sponsors for the event are: Nevis Tourism Authority;
Nevis Department of Fisheries; St. Kitts Nevis Coast
Guard; Scuba Safaris; Marine Biologist Barbara Whitman;
Nevis Yacht Club; Nevis Swim Club; Nevis Historical
and Conservation Society; Nevis solid Waste Management
Authority; NASPA Sports and Social Club; and several
more.
