Results from DNA tests have led to the
arrest and charge of two men the brutal murder of businessman
Hubert Phipps more than four years ago. Police Press
and Public Relations Officer Inspector Cromwell Henry
said forensic evidence had been key in making the arrests.
That is one of the reasons why so much time has
elapsed between the date of the offense and the date
of the arrest. We were awaiting the results of the forensics
examinations that were carried out by the FBI. We now
have the results
and so the charges are now being
laid.
On Friday July 3, 2009, Police arrested and formally
charged twenty-four-year-old Amal Whyte of Trafalgar
Village, and Devon Patches Fyfield, twenty-six
(26), of Wades Garden for the murder of Hubert Phipps
on in
2005.
Both men are currently serving prison sentences for
attempted murder and house breaking and larceny respectively.
They are expected to appear in court shortly. One
of Mr. Phipps sons, popular radio personality on WINN
FM, Andre Magic Man Phipps said Monday
that he was relieved and overwhelmed to learn of the
arrests. Im happy they caught whoever
it was, I just want to know why? My father was a good
person.
Everybody in St. Kitts loved my father. If it was
a robbery, take the money - whatever it was - and
just leave him alone. They did not have to kill him.
Phipps thanked the Police Department for definitely
doing their job.
The bloodied and bound body of Hubert Phipps, a former
Chief of Police and the owner of Tradelinks in Basseterre,
was found at his home at Wades Garden on at 7:30 in
the morning, on June 23rd 2005
