COURT CONVICTIONS

At a sitting of the Charlestown Magistrates Court on July 7, 2009, the
following persons were convicted and sentenced as follows:

i. Javier Lee of Bath Village was fined $2,500.00 to be paid in six months or
serve one year inprison for possession of marijuana. He was also fined
$250.00 to be paid in one month for carrying abroad an offensive weapon.
Offences were committed on July 4, 2009.

ii. Roxanne Jones and Maria James were both cautioned for disorderly
conduct by making noise, an offence which was committed on July 3rd 2009
at Charlestown.

iii. Mary Adams of Bath Village was also cautioned for an assault committed
on July 3rd 2009 at Charlestown.

SHOOTING

At about 8:55pm on 4th July, 2009 Police in Nevis responded to a report of
shooting at Spring Hill, Fountain. Investigations revealed that 17-yr-old Jevis
Liburd of Pond Hill, Gingerland was shot in the chest and abdomen by an
unknown assailant.

He was transported to the Alexandra Hospital where he underwent surgery
and remains there in critical condition. No arrest has been made.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The Police are appealing to anyone with information on this shooting to call
the Newcastle Police Station at telephone number 469 9326.

ILLEGAL FIREARM

On Saturday 4th July 2009, officers of the anti-gang unit during a routine
surveillance operation in the St. Johnston Village area observed a group of
young men dressed in hoodies.

The men ran through a nearby yard when they became aware of the police
presence, and discarded something. The yard was searched by the police
and one 9mm pistol and 5 rounds of ammunition were found.

This latest find brings to 19 the number of illegal firearms seized by the
security forces so far for 2009.

COCAINE POSSESSION

On July 7, 2009 Police in Nevis stopped and searched a number of persons
on suspicion of having controlled drugs, arms and ammunition.

Leon “Dance” Isaac of Conaree Village was found to have a quantity of
cocaine in his possession. He was arrested and charged for possession of
cocaine and possession of cocaine with intent to supply. He is expected to
appear in court shortly.

MARIJUANA PLANTS UPROOTED

On July 7, 2009 officers of the Strike Force uprooted six marijuana plants
ranging in height from two to four feet, from a vacant plot of land at Pitcairn
Street. No one was made accountable for this find.
