PARLIAMENTARIANS WALK OUT |
| |
During
yesterdays sitting of parliament, Leader of the
Opposition Hon. Mark Brantley of Nevis delivered his
remarks on the Prime Minister Hon. Denzil Douglas tabled
boundary change process then promptly walked out of
the meeting.
Brantley spoke briefly to The Observer following the
departure of himself, Hon. Vance Amory and Senator Michael
Perkins saying they were heading back to Nevis and had
attended the meeting only to let the public know what
their view was. He had also preempted his exit by saying
he preferred to do what was right as opposed to what
was expedient.
When asked if he thought what Prime Minister Hon. Denzil
Douglas was attempting to do was illegal, he said, It
is not what we would have done.
Although Brantley, representative for Nevis #9, said
he would likely show up to Mondays court hearing
on the issue of the proposed constituency boundary changes,
Amory said he would certainly attend.
What they are attempting to do is disregard Law
and Order and therefore create an atmosphere where others
may also seek to disregard Law and Order and that would
create a state of lawlessness.
Back inside the meeting, Hon. Ricky Skerritt expressed
his sentiment on the Nevis contingents departure
calling Brantleys exit a power move to impress
the Prime Minister.
The Opposition Leader wanted to make a political
statement when he led the three-man walk-out. How does
walking out help the cause of democracy? He said
the walk-out had taken parliament back to political
lows. |
