| Douglas named in
corruption scandal |
| By Sheena Brooks |

The People's Action
Movement continues to produce documentation the party
claims is irrefutable proof of Prime Minister Hon. Dr.
Denzil Douglas' involvement in fraudulent financial
dealings.
Since the announcement of the January 25th election
date, PAM has revealed financial documents it purports
to be transactions totaling millions of dollars passing
through accounts linked to the PM.
During a press briefing on Wednesday party leader Lindsay
Grant informed that he had written to two US federal
agencies, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the
Internal Revenue Services, requesting they investigate
the operations of a New York company, Lex Consulting
LLC. PAM asserts that the business is a shell company
operated by Dr. Douglas and the mother of two of his
children, through which illegitimate funds are being
channeled from accounts in numerous countries.
"Documents previously released by PAM, also provided
evidence showing that the registered offices of the
company, is in fact the home of the same Kate Alex Woodley,
at 3265 Bainbridge Avenue, Apartment B52, Bronx, New
York, 10467-3000. The two main accounts for which proof
has been established, are 000002391182553 and 000779501106365.
Given the huge sums of monies that have been moving
through this company, both the media and the US Authorities
need to take a close look, to satisfy themselves about
the appropriateness of the financial dealings,"
he informed.
Claimed photocopies of cheques drawn on a Lex Consulting
LLC St. Kitts Nevis Anguilla National Bank account show
US $95000, $40000 and $5000 made out to Dr. Denzil L.
Douglas, Labour Office Committee and SKN Ground Handling
Services respectively.
"What these documents prove is that the Prime Minister,
as we have said all along is very much aware of the
company called Lex Consulting and that he has in fact
been writing cheques and receiving large sums of monies,
with the latest cheque being paid out last week,"
Grant said.
PAM's leader also claims that the handwriting on the
cheques is that of PM Douglas but the signature is that
of Woodley. He alleged that Dr. Douglas was a signatory
on the accounts involved.
"The question we have to ask ourselves as Kittitians
and Nevisians is where all of these millions of dollars
are coming from and why is the Prime Minister receiving
payments and writing checks from the Lex Consulting
LLC account. But we must also ask the Prime Minister,
why is he eligible to actually prepare checks for payment?"
he asked of the reported $76 million that passed through
the accounts over the past decade.
According to an article posted on ww.sknvotelabour.com,
a website operated by the Labour party, Douglas rejected
PAM's allegations that he was an owner of Lex Consulting.
"Lex Consulting is not my company. Lex Consulting
is a private company that is established as far as I
know in the United States of America. It has been providing
services to the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party as early
as maybe two elections ago. It is not my company. I
do not own it. It is a company that is owned and registered
in the United States of America and it has a local bank
account here and a US bank account from which it does
businesses as well," the PM is quoted as saying
during a recent radio interview.
The article also stated that Dr. Douglas informed that
he had acquired several properties by monies he had
earned legally through salary and investment and by
becoming indebted to local banks.
Grant questioned why if Lex Consulting LLC had been
providing services to the Labour party, was the US company
issuing monies to the party leader and not vice versa.
He said he could speak to whether the FBI or IRS would
in fact launch an investigation into LEX Consulting
LLC. |
