Nevis' cricket chief
Ronald Powell is happy over the fact that he has received
very positive comments coming out of the recently held
match at the Elquemedo Willet Park between the Combined
Campuses and Colleges and Barbados teams.
Powell who previously
indicated that Nevis was originally written off as
a host venue for the regional series was high in praise
for his executive, the Nevis Island Administration
and quite a number of other individuals and entities
who worked extremely hard to ensure that Nevis eventually
got the match. According to Powell, Imran Khan, the
West indies Cricket Board Media Officer indicated
that he was very impressed with the grounds and the
general outfield, described as lush and green and
even hinted towards Nevis possibly hosting International
practice games in the near future.
There were also positive
comments from fast bowlers Kemar Roach and Tino Best
who applauded the grounds men led by Errol 'Jabal'
Walwyn for providing a hard, fast track which generated
quite a bit of life, even up to the fourth day. On
that final day of the match, Roach bowled a devastating
spell and wrecked the CCC team with the remarkable
figures of 7 for 23.
Powell further indicated
that his association was able to provide a medical
room as stipulated by the requirements and had a medical
staff and an ambulance constantly available throughout
the match. Several players received treatment from
the medical team and indicated their appreciation
for the kind of care they received. He was also high
in praise for Hospital Administrator, Mrs. Veta Morton
and her hard working staff for their invaluable contribution.
Powell, however, lamented
the poor attendance at the game but noted that more
interest may have been paid to the Leewards versus
Jamaica game, being played in St.Kitts and was also
quick to point out that he really expected a bumper
crowd on Sunday but that was the day that was rained
out.He however thanked everyone who assisted in any
way to make the match a reality for Nevis and looks
forward to their continued support.
