SHOOTINGS
The police are presently
investigating a number of shooting incidents which
took place over the weekend, they are as follows:
On Friday 26th February police responded to a report
of shooting which occurred at approximately 9:30 pm
at Leonard Dickenson Street, Ponds Pasture in the
vicinity of the Newtown Primary School.
Investigations revealed that Morvel Fahie a Taxi Driver
of Lodge Village was shot at while he was driving
taxi bus TA-122 north along Leonard Dickenson Street.
Further enquires revealed that the front windscreen
and the right front door of the said taxi was damaged
by what appeared to be bullet penetrations. Dickenson
escaped without injury and the vehicle was taken into
police custody for processing and was released on
Monday 1st March. There are no suspect(s) in custody
however investigations are ongoing.
On Saturday 27th February police responded to a report
of shooting which occurred at approximately 3:55 pm
at Fiennes Avenue and Fort Thomas Road. Investigations
revealed that Kegel Phipps of Fort Thomas Road was
shot in his right leg while riding a bicycle along
Fort Thomas Road.
He was taken to the JNF Hospital where he has been
admitted in stable condition. There are no suspects
in police custody at this time however investigations
are ongoing.
On Saturday 27th February police on Nevis responded
to a report of shooting which occurred to approximately
10:27 pm at Bailey's Yard, Cole Hill. Investigations
revealed that Saish James of Bath Village was shot
in his right shoulder and was taken to the Alexandra
Hospital where he is in stable condition. There are
no suspect(s) in police but investigations are ongoing.
On Sunday 28th February police from the Cayon Police
Station responded to a report of shooting which occurred
at approximately 12:00 am at the Lodge Community Centre
at Lodge.
Investigations revealed that Jervin Wilson, 17, of
Ottleys Village was found motionless lying on the
ground face down with what appeared to be gunshot
injuries to his back. Jervin was pronounced dead by
the District Medical Officer Dr. Garfield Alexander;
however an autopsy will be performed at a later date
to determine the cause of death.
Further enquiries revealed Shared Scarborough, 18,
and Adrian Wilson, 17, both of Ottleys Village were
also shot in the back and back of neck respectively.
Adrian and Shared were both taken to the JNF Hospital
where they have been admitted in stable condition.
Investigations also revealed Anastatia Williams, 18,
of Ottleys Village was the victim of a traffic accident
where a pick-up collided with her causing cuts and
abrasions and fractured her right leg. Two vehicles
parked nearby were also damaged and had what appeared
to be bullet penetrations.
The detectives processed the crime scene, collected
a number of exhibits and have recorded a number of
statements. Williams was also taken to the JNF Hospital
where they remain in stable condition. There are no
suspect(s) in police custody and investigations are
ongoing.
ARRESTS
The police have made a number of arrests in matters
they are investigating.
On Sunday 28th February at approximately 4:10 am police
formally arrested and charged Shamon Herbert of Taylors
Village without a warrant for possession of cannabis
and possession of cannabis with intent to supply.
The offence was committed at a night club in the Bird
Rock area on 28-2-2010.
On Saturday 27th February at approximately 7:30 am
police formally arrested and charged Lincoln Liburd
of Lime Kiln without a warrant for being found in
an enclosed premises and carrying abroad an offensive
weapon. The offence was committed at the Mc Knight
Day Care Centre on 27-2-2010.
On Saturday 27th February police formally arrested
and charged Clexston Phillip of Sandy Point on a warrant
in the first instance for the offence of robbery.
The offence was committed on 14-2-2010.
On Tuesday 2nd March police formally arrested and
charged Leon Didder and Tayan Wilkin both of New Castle
on Warrants in the First Instance on two counts each
for Wounding Jermaine Freeman of Rawlins and Travis
Hanley of Halfway Tree, St. Kitts but sometimes resides
at Rawlins, Nevis, for Wounding with intent to Commit
Murder. The offence was committed at Zion, Nevis on
20-2-2010 at between 4:30 and 4:50 am approximately.
COURT CONVICTIONS
The following are the decisions handed down by the
courts:
On Wednesday 24th February 2010 Elvis James of Dieppe
Bay appeared before the presiding judge at the High
Court Her Ladyship Justice Ianthea Leigertwood Octave
on an indictment for Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, the
jury returned a guilty verdict and James was sentenced
to four (4) years imprisonment at HM Prison.
On Monday 1st March Darren Webster of Verchilds Village
appeared before the presiding magistrate at the Basseterre
Magistrates Court, Her Worship Mrs. Josephine Mallalieu-Webbe
on a charge for Possession of Cannabis. Webster was
convicted and fined $300.00 to be paid in three (3)
months or in default one (1) month in prison.
On Tuesday 2nd March Dennis Doras of Stapleton Village
appeared before the presiding judge at the High Court
His Lordship Justice Francis Belle on an indictment
for Larceny. The accused reported sick and was hospitalized
when the case was convened on the 1st March and was
still sick when the case was reconvened on the 2nd
March. The presiding judge then declared the case
a mistrial.
On Tuesday 2nd March Javier Douglas of St. Pauls and
Everton Griffin appeared before the presiding magistrate
at the Charlestown Magistrate's Court, Her Worship
Ms. Yasmine Clarke on a charge of Possession of Cannabis
and permitting another without a driver's license
to drive respectively.
Douglas and Griffin were convicted and fined $800.00
to be paid in three (3) months or one (1) month's
imprisonment and $500.00 to be paid in one (1) month
or one (1) month's imprisonment respectively.
