Mar. 9 -- The World
Bank is pleased to announce a call for entries to
participate in a visual arts exhibition featuring
artists from Latin America and the Caribbean and inspired
by the idea of change.
Change offers a unique
opportunity for emerging artists to highlight the
region s concerns and achievements, while providing
them with exposure within the international art community.
The visual arts accepted
include the following categories:
- Fine arts (painting,
sculpture, drawing, video, printmaking, photography,
mixed media, video art, experimental film and digital
animation).
- Decorative arts,
including design (product design, graphic design,
textile and fashion design).
- Folk art (popular
art, indigenous art and craft).
The winning works
will be displayed in rotating exhibitions hosted at
the World Bank offices in Washington, DC and Paris,
as well as at the Cultural Center of the Inter-American
Development Bank, and at the Art Museum of the Americas
of the Organization of American States, both in Washington,
DC. In addition, the artists and their works exhibitions
will be featured on the project s art catalogue and
Web site.
Participation is open
to emerging visual artists, or groups of artists,
of any age, from member countries of the World Bank
Group in the Latin America and the Caribbean region.*
Submissions must be
received by the World Bank Art Program no later than
April 30, 2010 and selected artists will be notified
by the end of May 2010.
Priority will be given
to artists born and currently working in Latin America
and the Caribbean, however, artists born in other
regions, but primarily working in Latin America or
the Caribbean, as well as artists of the diaspora
are also eligible to apply.
From the artworks
selected for display, a number will be acquired and
included in the permanent collections of the partnering
institutions. Additionally, the World Bank Art Program
will identify from the pool of selected artists the
recipient of the World Bank Art Program Artists Workshop
Award.
This project is sponsored
by the World Bank s Latin America and the Caribbean
Region and the World Bank Art Program, in partnership
with the Cultural Center of the Inter-American Development
Bank, the Art Museum of the Americas of the Organization
of American States, and the Caribbean Community Secretariat.
*NOTE. Member countries
of the World Bank Group in Latin America and the Caribbean
include: Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Bahamas,
Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia,
Costa Rica, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador,
El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras,
Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru,
