Criminal charges of
possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis
with intent to supply against Woman Police Officer
Monica Williams have been withdrawn by the court.
The WPO remains suspended from the police, however,
pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
WPO Williams along with Jeneve Mills were charged
with the drug offences on February 19 as a result
of a police search warrant executed on a Prickley
Pear residence on February 12. The female police officer's
official address was given as St. Pauls however police
confirmed that she was present during the raid and
was therefore deemed to be in possession of any illegal
substances found within the premises.
WPO Williams and Mills both pleaded not guilty in
a subsequent court proceeding and were released on
$5000 bail each.
Mills later changed his plea to guilty at the Basseterre
Magistrate Court and was convicted of possession of
cannabis and fined $2 000 to be paid within two weeks
or serve one month imprisonment.
The Observer has learned that WPO Williams
has been charged with discreditable conduct and the
trial will be adjudicated by an officer of the High
Command.
"If convicted by the police internal tribunal,
WPO Williams can face a number of punishments including
a fine, confinement to barracks for a specified period
or dismissal," Police PRO Inspector Vaughan Henderson
told The Observer.
The Senior Constable has reportedly served the police
force for several years. Insp. Henderson would not
reveal the terms of her continued suspension as it
relates to whether she is receiving any portion of
her salary during the abeyance from official duty.
