President appeals to past Cricketers
Nevis' Cricket chief, Ronald Powell is appealing to
all Cricketers who have represented Nevis in the past
to kindly be present at the Elquemedo Willet Park on
Saturday 3rd April in order to be a part of the 2nd
annual Cricket Coaching Festival. According to Powell,
letters were sent out to as many past players as possible
but some may have been overlooked. He is therefore asking
past players to note that even if they did not receive
a letter, they are all invited and will be accorded
the dignitary status they deserve.
The Coaching clinics will commence at about 10.00 am
but Powell has also informed that everyone needs to
be at the Park by 9.15 am as a brief opening ceremony
will be held at 9.30 am which will include the Minister
of Sports, Hon Hensley Daniel and a few of the past
players.
A new feature of this year's clinic will be a time set
aside when the younger players present will be formally
introduced to the past players and told of some of their
achievements.
Past players from St.Kitts of the caliber of Victor
Eddy, Virgil Newton and Noel Guishard, have also accepted
invitations to be present at the clinic.
The event is expected to be an all day affair and lunch
will be provided for the participants.

Stuart Williams, a few youthful English teams are
set to play a series of matches on Nevis over the
Easter weekend.
The three teams comprising of youngsters under 13,

and Tuesday April 6th.
Williams further indicated that the Nevisian young
cricketers, who practiced up until late yesterday
afternoon, should all give a good account of themselves
but he expects the matches to be very competitive
as the young Englishmen are also well coached.
The general Public is cordially invited to view these
matches.

SJCIC annual Kite Flying Event on for Good Friday
Just in case anybody was wondering, President of the
St.John's Community Improvement Club (SJCIC), Mr.
Alstead Pemberton has indicated in no uncertain terms
that the annual SJCIC kite flying contest is definitely
on for Good Friday-2nd April 2010.
The man who has been designated by his peers as the
unofficial 'President for life', was happy to note
that this year would be historic in the sense that
it would be the first time that the general Public
would be able to enjoy the newly flattened 'Flats'
for an activity of this nature.
He indicated that registration for the event would
commence at about 9am and the judging of the kites
is set to commence at about 11 am. The actual kite
flying contest will commence at about 12.00 noon.
There will also be a range of activities which will
include Cricket and a set of fun games.
The registration fee is a mere $5.00 but the winners
will receive the usual healthy prizes:
$300.00 for the winners and $150.00 for the second
placers in all categories except for the book leaf
category where the winner will receive $50.00 and
the second placer will receive $25.00. These prizes
are compliments of the usual sponsors of the event,
the Four Seasons Estates.
Vendors will pay a
registration fee of $75.00-down from $100.00 in previous
years. There will also be the usual music, traditional
local foods and a general family day atmosphere which
Pemberton is insisting is not a day to be missed by
anyone.

Coaching Clinic set for April 3rd
The second annual Cricket Coaching Festival, hosted
by the Nevis Cricket Association, is all set for Saturday
April 3rd.
According to Nevis' Cricket chief, Ronald Powell, the
activity will bowl off at 10.30 am and will run for
the major part of the day. As was the case last year,
all cricket teams and clubs on the island have been
invited to send at least five players for each of the
following disciplines: Batting, pace bowling, off spin,
leg spin and wicketkeeping.
Many of the former outstanding cricketers for Nevis
have again been invited to help in guiding the younger
players along their cricketing path. Included in the
list are: Livingstone Sargeant, Elquemedo Willet, Deryck
Parry, Keith Arthurton, Stuart Williams, Carl Tuckett,
Harold Walters, Vance Amory, along with Victor Eddy
and Noel Guishard out of St.Kitts.
In response to his letter of invitation, Victor Eddy,
the former Kittitian and Leeward Islands all rounder
wrote:
"Dear Sir, I must thank you and your Association
for once again extending the hand of inclusion, by inviting
me as part of your cricket coaching festival which is
to be held on April 3rd 2010.
Your Association's vision for Nevis Crciket development
is great, in the sense of getting experience on board.
I accept your invitation and do hope that I can bring
my best expertise to make this festival a very productive
and successful one. Yours sincerely. Victor Eddy".
President Powell is hoping that the current Nevis senior
players, their junior counterparts and even the female
cricketers, will seize this opportunity to enhance their
game and interact with some of the cricketers who have
excelled at the game.
Digicel second
division Semi Finals set
Now that all of the preliminary rounds of the Digicel
second division league hosted by the Nevis cricket
Association have been completed, the names of the
top four teams and the schedule for the semi final
encounters have been released.
Current champions, Pennyless All stars placed first
in Zone A and Calypso cricket placed second. Highlights
Int topped the point's standings in Zone B with Big
Rock in the runners up spot.
The semi final matches will not be played this coming
weekend due to the hosting of the second annual Cricket
Coaching festival but instead will be played the following
weekend. The schedule of matches is as follows:
Saturday 10th March: Pennyless All stars v Big Rock
at the Ramsbury grounds-the unofficial Meritzer Williams
Park.
Saturday 10th March: Highlights Int v Calypso Cricket
at Cotton Ground
Sunday 11th March-the grand finals. If the Elquemedo
Willet Park is available, the match will be played
at the premier venue, if the Football season is still
ongoing, the match will be played at Cotton Ground.
Dillon gives back to his School
Ailing youthful Nevisian cricketer, Dillon Claxton
made a surprise visit to his school, the Gingerland
Secondary School on Monday 29th March. The purpose
of his visit was to hand over a set of balls for use
at his beloved school.
Apparently the balls which include Footballs and basketballs
had been donated to him and as he is presently ill
he decided to donate them to his school.
Teacher responsible for Sports at the School, Mr.
Oliver Beazer accepted the gifts on behalf of the
school and expressed his profound gratitude for the
gesture.
Principal of the school, Mrs. Dawn Jeffers was elated,
mainly to be able to see Dillon and also thanked him
for his fine gesture.
The children on hand at the assembly session that
morning gave a warm round of applause to their ailing
school mate.
The Parish Priest attached to the school, Rev Rosemarie
Julius also prayed for God's healing mercies on behalf
of the young cricketer.
Dillon who was accompanied by his Mom, is expected
to return to Puerto Rico shortly to undergo another
six months of treatment for his illness.

Trinis score big win as Under-15's bowl off
(windiescricket.com)
Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and Guyana all had impressive
victories in the opening round of matches in the West
Indies Cricket Board's Under-15 Tournament on Monday.
Home team Trinidad and Tobago beat the Leeward Islands
by 162 runs; defending champions Jamaica beat Barbados
by 64 runs; while the Guyanese had a 45-run win over

the Trinidad and Tobago captain. The leg-spinner took
7-15 from 10 overs as the Leewards were bowled out
for 94 in reply to the home side's imposing 256 off
47.4 overs. Mohan took the Player-of-the-Match award
and was well supported by fellow spinner Jovan Ali
who took 3-11. Brian Christmas was responsible for
the Trinidad's score as he made 73 off 61 balls. He

award.
Johnson grabs 10 to seal series success
Cricinfo
Mitchell Johnson achieved his second ten-wicket match
haul in Tests to finish off New Zealand before lunch
as Australia swept to a 2-0 series victory. New Zealand
resumed at 185 for 5 chasing a record-breaking target
of 479, but Johnson and Doug Bollinger dismissed them
for 302 to secure a 176-run victory.
Johnson was responsible for causing the early damage
in the pursuit on day four when his high-speed spells
gained three wickets and he backed up with another
three. The 6 for 73 followed his 4 for 59 in the first
innings and gave him 12 victims for the series. The
performance ensured Australia finished an unbeaten
summer with seven wins in eight Tests.

New Inter High School Champions Crowned
The Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CRBC) crciket team
is the new champions of Inter High school cricket within
the federation of St.Kitts-Nevis.
This feat was accomplished yesterday at the Cotton Ground
playing field when they defeated the Gingerland Secondary
School by 81 runs.
The GSS team won the
toss and sent the CFBC team into bat. At one point
the CFBC team was on 106 for 6 and then 116 for 9
and seemingly struggling. However a crucial last wicket
partnership of 70 runs between Jeffers and Henry proved
the main difference between the two teams.
CFBC eventually all out for 186 in 36.5 overs of the
40 overs encounter.
GSS in their turn
at crease failed to develop any long standing partnerships
and were bowled out for 105 in just 23.4 overs.
Summarized scores: CFBC-186 all out in 36.5 overs:
Akeem Fox 40; Eldryson Henry 36 not out and Kamal
Jeffers 25. For GSS, Trevin Nisbett bagged 3 for 24
from 8 overs and Theron Bussue 2 for 32 from 8 overs.
GSS 105 all out in 23.4 overs: Shavare Liburd 16 and
Shawn Hanley 15. For CFBC-Lachim Phipps got 4 for

Jamaica MP gets in the Bring It spirit
The "Bring It" bandwagon paid a courtesy
call on Jamaica's Minister of Youth, Sports &
Culture, Ms Olivia 'Babsy' Grange on Friday at her
office as ICC World Twenty20 West Indies 2010 Tournament
Director Robert Bryan, presented her with a personalized
"Bring It" bat; the first of ten to be given
out around the Caribbean.
Though ICC WT20 matches will be played in four countries,
Bryan noted: "This event belongs to the entire
region and is something of which all West Indians
should be proud. The Caribbean will be hosting its
second international cricket tournament within three
years and we are looking forward to seeing our relatives
and friends from neighbouring countries, including
Jamaica, coming to celebrate this occasion and enjoy
the cricket with us - and indeed with the rest of
the world. We have included some of the other islands
in our promotional campaign so that everyone can get
a taste of the 'Bring It' fever as we count down to
the start of the event next month.
I hope I will see Minister Grange and other West Indians
from non-hosting countries at the matches, showing
the cricketing world that the Caribbean is indeed
the best place to 'Bring It'!" Minister Grange,
admiring the personalized "Babsy Is Bringing
It!" slogan written across the blade, was delighted
to receive the bat - which is a replica of the giant
bats that have been erected across the four host nations
(Barbados, Guyana, St. Kitts and Saint Lucia).
Pledging her support for ICC WT20 WI 2010, she placed
her newest acquisition prominently among various awards
and memorabilia which she has received over the years.
In another part of the Caribbean the "Bring It"
posse was on the move across the Caribbean and, with
each stop on the "Bring It" bus tour, new
honorary members are being added to the "Bring
It" fan club. Over the past few days, cricket-loving
residents of Antigua, Jamaica, St. Vincent and Trinidad
have enjoyed surprise "Bring It" visits
to popular hang-out spots and bustling city centres
as the countdown to ICC World Twenty20 West Indies
2010 grows to a crescendo with just five weeks until
it starts on Friday April 30. In some countries, the
"Bring It" bus brought with it former ace
cricketers, including Windies legends Clive Lloyd
and Courtney Walsh, or Super Fans such as Gravy and
Peter Matthews; all the while the Tournament Song
"Bring It" blaring from speakers.
"I'm really excited by the overwhelming response
we've received here in Trinidad to the 'Bring It'
Bus Tour. Trinidadians have embraced the ICC World
Twenty20 even though Trinidad is not hosting matches.
I'm somewhat surprised by how many Trinis have indicated
they will be travelling to other territories, especially
Guyana, to watch matches," said Matthews, greeting
members of the public in Chaguanas. Gravy, in his
trademark comical mode, engaged Antiguans and tourists
alike in light-hearted banter outside Heritage Quay
in the busy capital, St. John's; giving away "Bring
It" T-shirts to those who answered questions
correctly
or found some other way to convince
him they deserved one. As the bus prepared to resume
its journey, he reminded persons in the crowd to play
their part when ICC WT20 WI 2010 comes to the region,
declaring: "You call yourself a fan - then, bring
it!"
Mohammad Yousuf retires from international cricket
Cricinfo staff
Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf has announced
his retirement from international cricket, following
an indefinite ban imposed by the PCB in the aftermath
of a winless tour of Australia. However, Yousuf appears
to have kept a window open for return to the international
arena, for he repeatedly said the decision to retire
was "for now."
"This is my retirement. I have retired from international
cricket," Yousuf told reporters in Karachi. "I
received a letter from the PCB that my staying in
the team is harmful for the team, so I announce my
retirement from international cricket." However,
when asked if the decision was final, Yousuf said:
"For now, this is what I can see, that my playing
for Pakistan is damaging. For now, this is it, for
now this is my retirement.
"I thank the fans around the world, all the senior
players and family members for supporting me throughout
my 12-year career. I always played for my country
and if my playing is harmful for the team then I don't
want to play," he said.
Yousuf had, last week, said he was preparing to retire
and that he would make a formal announcement today.
He played 88 Tests, nine as captain and scored 7,431
runs at an average of 53.07, including 24 centuries.
He also scored 9,624 runs in 282 one-day internationals.

ATHLETICS
RUMOURS DISPELLED AS FALSE
On Friday 26th March a rumour circulated throughout
Nevis that there had been a recount of the point standings
from the recently concluded Inter Primary Sports meet
and that as a result of the said recount, The Charlestown
Primary School had been adjudged as the 2010 Inter Primary
champions, effectively giving them the coveted six peat
status.
It was even stated that the Charlestown team had won
by four points.
This naturally created quite some concern among sporting
pundits on the island and even more so for the folks
affiliated with the Joycelyn Liburd Primary School who
had been crowned 2010 champs since the same day of the
Championships which was held on Wednesday March 24th.
The general consensus of opinion was that if that was
the case, it would spell an immediate death for the
prestigious event as not only the Joycelyn Liburd Primary
but some of the other schools would refuse to participate
in future events, citing a lack of confidence in the
organizers.
Principal Education Officer, Mrs. Lornette Connor was
approached on the issue and she confidently stated that
the rumours were indeed false and that the original
results which were announced on the evening of the event,
still stand.
This was further confirmed
by Chief Organizer of the event and NAAA chief, Lester
Blackett who indicated that "a recount was not
requested; a recount was not done and the original
results still stand'. He noted that as is the norm,
the usual review of the meet was conducted and there
had been no changes in the point standings.
According to the original results released on the
night of the event, the Joycelyn Liburd Primary School
just edged out the five peat champions Charlestown
Primary by a mere two points to take the coveted overall
trophy. On the other hand, an elated St.John's school
secured the trophy for the B division.
SCHOOLS CELEBRATE
WITH MOTORCADES
The Joycelyn Liburd Primary school and the St.John's
Primary school, both celebrated their victories at
the recently concluded Inter Primary Sports meet,
on Saturday, with separate motorcades which eventually
crossed paths to make one.
The St.John's School led by Coach Adelvin Phillip,
commenced their motorcade at their school grounds
and journeyed towards Gingerland. Incidentally, The
Joycelyn Liburd School was already in total readiness
for their grand motorcade and both schools eventually
linked up to make one grand. Their motorcade was led
by the jubilant Coach, Kurvin Wallace.
The horn tooting, balloon waving bunch of happy motorists
headed East through Zion village en route to making
a complete circle through the length and breadth of
Nevis.
They even passed through Craddock Road and as was
expected did not receive the warmest of welcomes by
the Charlestown Primary supporters there.
They slowed down on Main Street Charlestown, where
they would have received their biggest audience and
relished in the joy of their victory.
The motorcade culminated back at the Gingerland School
and even as the celebrants parted ways there was a
sense of accomplishment that money could not pay for.
Record participation in Cross Channel Swim
Chief organizer, Winston Crooke indicted that if he
had registered only 58 persons he would have felt
pleased with the participation level at the 8th annual
Nevis to St.Kitts cross channel swim. He was overwhelmed
with the fact that no fewer than 98 persons actually
registered and 97 completed the 2 ½ miles course.
The event was held on Sunday 28th March and commenced
as per usual at the Oualie Beach hotel. After a briefing
by Winston Crooke, the swimmers all lined up on the
beach and at the sound of the shrilly whistle, ran
into the water and took off.
In a pre race interview, most of the athletes indicated
that they were completing the course more for a sense
of achievement than an actual race. However, as expected
the actual racers were the ones completing the course
early. Some of the swimmers explained that they would
have heard of the event through various means: through
friends, via the internet and from past swimmers.
The swimmers included a nine- year old boy from Antigua
who had completed the course last year as well and
a few ladies who were past age sixty.
The top places were:
Purdy, Rhian (MUA) 1:05:21 1st female

BASKETBALL
A-1 Technology Basketball league dunks off
Owner/Manager of the popular A-1 Technology store
in Charlestown, Mr. Mackey Tross, indicated that he
deemed it a privilege to sponsor a Basketball league
in the Gingerland area. He was at the time addressing
an opening ceremony at the Old Manor hard courts to
signal the opening of the inaugural league sponsored
by his establishment. He implored the players to exhibit
self discipline and represent his business well.
The event which was held on the evening of Saturday
27th March was chaired by Ms Wanda Parry and the invocation
was delivered by Dr. Allison Percival, Parish Priest
at the St.George's and St.John's Anglican churches.
Minister of Sports Hon Hensley Daniel was high in
praise for the sponsors, as he was quick to note the
economic situation of the day and how easily Mr. Tross
could have said 'No', when he was approached. He emphasized
his government's commitment to sports in general and
the stated commitment to youth development. He urged
the players to develop strong friendships and to play
hard but fair. He also indicated his disgust at the
use of indecent language at such games and requested
of the players to move to a different level in their
general decorum.
The vote of thanks was delivered by chief organizer
of the event, Ms Veronica Brandy.
Immediately after the opening ceremony a knock out
completion was held. Nevis' champion team, CG Rebels
added yet another trophy to their grand repertoire
by winning over CG Massives in the finals 19 to 16.
In the preliminary games, the results were as follows:
GHETTO STARZ 6
CHURCH GROUND 8
C. G. REBELS 14
BRONX CRISIS 8
POLICE 7
CHURCH GROUND 10
Missing from the evening's line up was a team from
the Charlestown Secondary School who were apparently
involved with a school pageant that same evening.
The actual league matches are expected to commence
on Wednesday 31st March with matches scheduled for
Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Rained out games
will be rescheduled.

FOOTBALL
Final Four off and running
Two exciting games were played in front of a small
crowd on the evening of Saturday 27th March, as a
part of the final four count down in the local football
league hosted by the Nevis football Association.
In match one, SL Horsfords Highlights and Brand Slybo
Stoney Grove, ended regular time in a hard fought
drawn situation on 3 goals all. The Highlights men
apparently thought it was all over and proceeded to
leave the Park. They were then informed that in previous
meetings with the Association, it was apparently stated
that all games would have to end in a clear cut result.
This created some friction and a tense situation followed
as Ras Iroy had to utilize his negotiating skills
to get his team back onto the field of play. The Highlights
team however, secured another goal and ended the game
at overtime with a 4 to 3 victory.
In the second game a fleet- footed and aggressive
Combined Schools team, seemed to have caught the Bath
United team flat footed for most of the first half
and secured an early lead. However, with about a minute
left for the half time whistle, a jubilant Bath team
equalized.
The second half was also hard fought with the Referee
being forced to intervene with several altercations
and issuing a few yellow cards in the process. With
just about five minutes remaining on the clock, Shaheed
Tyson for the Bath team, made a stunning finish out
of a bungle of players to seal the issue on 2 goals
to 1.
On Sunday 28th it was the turn of the Combined Schools
to engage the former champions SL Horsfords Highlights
in game one. Again the school team was very positive
and aggressive and at the end of regular time, the
score was nil all. It was nil-all all at the end of
overtime. The players then went to the penalty spot
and the Combined schoolboys proved more accurate,
sealing the issue on 5 goals to 3.
The goal scorers for the School team were: Clinton
Staurt, Davidson Jarvis, Arthur Boston, Leondre Powell,
Jurnel Turner and for Highlights:
Lionel Marson (2) and Delaney Phillip.
In the final game, BA SG Strikers took advantage of
a lack luster start by the Bath United team to be
leading at one point with a 2 to nil advantage. However,
Bath came back strongly and managed to tie the scores
at 2 to all at the end of regular time. However an
early goal by the Stoney Grove team in overtime sealed
the issue as they managed to hold on to their lead,
when the final whistle was blown
Final score: 3 goals to 2 in favour of Stoney Grove.
The goal scorers for Stoney Grove were: Delvon Clarke
(2) and Delroy Arthurton.
For the Bath team, the goal scorers were:
Kevin Charles, Dale Farrell.
Interestingly, all of the teams have won one game
each thus far.

Joycelyn Liburd Primary Celebrates
There was an atmosphere of celebrations at the Joycelyn
Liburd Primary School yesterday as the students, Teachers,
Coaches and parents all united in giving God thanks
and praise for the victory at the Inter Primary sports
meet the previous day.
The morning's worship session was led by Principal
Mrs. Marion Lescott who indicated that after anticipating
the big event for several weeks, disappointingly,
she fell ill on the day of the event and had to be
briefly hospitalized. Fortunately, she was able to
watch her team perform via local television, while
on her hospital bed.
She led the gathering into choruses of thanksgiving
and as she asked everyone to bow their heads in prayer,
the quietness of the hour was disrupted by the loud
blowing of a horn and the sound of a whistle as Coach
Kurvin Wallace led his one man motorcade into the
school yard and ran up the steps, proudly holding
the championship trophy aloft.
The children totally
forgot about prayer time and rushed towards their
celebrating Coach with screams of joy.
Later when everything settled down, The Headmistress
led out in prayer and then the children received words
of congratulations from Education Officer responsible
for the school, Ms Andrea Bussue. She explained that
she did not put on any purple as she also had to leave
and go to celebrate with St.John's Primary, the victors
in the B division, another school under her watch.
She admonished the children to put the same zeal into
their classroom activities and asked them to work
hard so that their upcoming test of standards results
would also be of the highest caliber.
Mr. Marvin Chapman who had assisted with the training
of the children, then officially handed over a magnificent
'faith trophy' to the Principal. The famous local
stone carver created the majestic trophy from what
he referred to as "Gingerland stone' and indicated
that it was done well in advance of the victory, in
faith, as he expected the school to win.
Coach Wallace also addressed the gathering and reminded
them that in his pep talk on the morning of the meet,
he had indicated to them that all he wanted to lose
when he went to Charlestown was his voice but that
he was happy that the athletes had performed well
enough to deliver the trophy.
Teacher at the School, Mr. Morrison then led the children
into two original victory songs and expressed the
joy of receiving the best birthday gift possible,
as the school had won on his birthday.
The athletes, Teachers and Coaches then posed for
a photo shoot and Headmistress Lescott then indicated
that the day for the grand motorcade will be announced
shortly, after plans are finalized with the parents.
Several parents were
also on hand to celebrate with the athletes.

Congratulations
to Uniqueko Willet
Former West Indies Cricketer, Carl Tuckett is high
in praise for the contributions of Uniqueko Willet
to the success of the Charlestown Primary school at
the Inter Primary Sports meet, over the last several
years.
Tuckett made his comments while doing running commentary
during the prestigious event held on Wednesday March
24th.
According to Tuckett, the young Willet would have
competed from the Kindergarten stage right up to this
her final year at the school and had never been beaten
in a single race-definitely an outstanding feat.
On the big day however, with the Park already tipped
to be named after her Dad and immediate Coach, Elquemedo
Willet, Uniqueko was narrowly beaten to the tape in
two races, after storming her way to a gold medal
in the 400 meters.
In the 200 meters, Uniqueko was edged to the tape
by Keishonna Brookes of the Ivor Walters School in
an exciting race and in the 100 meters event, in what
may arguably be considered 'the race of the day',
Uniqueko was again narrowly beaten to the tape by
Keishonna Brookes in first place and Joanne Manners
of the Joycelyn Liburd Primary.
It has however since been revealed that Uniqueko was
not fully at the top of her game and is presently
recovering from bouts of illness but insisted that
she wanted to run.
Unfortunate reports have also indicated that some
parents of opposing schools took to booing and taunting
the young athlete after her losses.
Such behaviour is definitely not acceptable and it
is hoped that such unsavory traits will not be seeing
at similar events in the future.
As the young athlete makes her way to the Charlestown
Secondary School in the near future, we wish her continued
success and we congratulate her for her sterling contributions
to athletics on Nevis, up to this point.

Jets Squashes GSS
SDA Jets silenced the Gingerland Secondary School
boys in a Digicel second division encounter played
at the Gingerland Recreation ground yesterday. The
School boys won the toss and elected to bat first
and were off to a rocketing start compliments of hard
hitting opening batsman, Ronnel Chapman who raced
to a half century in under ten overs, hitting no fewer
than four terrific sixes in the process.
The schoolboys however fell into a rut after the introduction
of Curtis Morton Sr and Danny Williams, having his
first bowl at this level. Morton just failed to secure
a hat trick, as the innings of the school boys folded
on 103 for 8- effectively all out in 16 overs.
SDA Jets in response wasted little time in getting
to the target, utilizing a mere 10.1 overs, thanks
to punishing knocks by Captain Oneil Walters and Charles
Morton.
Summarized scores: GSS 103 for 8 (all out) in 16 overs.
Ronnel Chapman 52; Kezron Archibald 17. There were
25 extras.
Curtis Morton SR 5 for 11 from 5 overs and Danny Williams
2 for 10 from 4 overs.
SDA Jets 107 for 2 in 10.1 overs. Oneil Walters 49
not out; Charles Morton 27. Kezron Archibald 1 for
39 and Theron Bussue 1 for 17.
Jets will next engage Calypso Cricket on Sunday March
28th in what may prove a critical encounter to determine
the semi final placings.
Inter High Schools Semi finals today
The inter High schools Cricket league semi finals
will be played today. At Cotton Ground, CSS will engage
the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College and at Sandy Point,
GSS will engage Sandy Point.
Both matches will commence at 10 am.
According to national
coach Stuart Williams, providing that at least one
of the Nevisian teams gets into the finals, the finals
will be played in Nevis.

Coach Charges Religious
Discrimination
Mr. Keithley Blanchette, teacher and coach at the
Seventh-day Adventist School in St. Kitts, is crying
foul. Mr. Blanchette is indicating that the athletes
at his school are being discriminated against on religious
grounds.
The controversy stems from the fact that the annual
Inter Primary sports meet in St. Kitts is set to be
held on Saturday March 27th and Sunday March 28th.
As a matter of fact, according to Blanchette, two
schools will not be able to participate during the
set period due to religious convictions:
The Seventh-day Adventist School which placed sixth
out of the twenty three schools which participated
last year will not be able to participate on the Saturday
of the meet as it is the Sabbath and the Morris Hillier
Memorial School which is a Methodist School and will
not be participating on the Sunday of the meet.
Last year the meet was run over three days - Wednesday,
Thursday and Friday and all of the schools were able
to participate. Blanchette indicated that there was
a similar proposal last year to have the meet on a
weekend but due to the timely intervention of Deputy
Prime Minister, the Hon Sam Condor, the controversy
was averted.
However, this year when a similar proposal was made,
similar interventions failed even after the matter
was discussed at the Cabinet level. Blanchette indicated
that the government found its hands tied when the
sponsors and the Athletic Association tagged teamed
to indicate that if the dates were changed, they would
not be contributing to the event. The event is mainly
sponsored by the Rams Company grouping.
Blanchette says he feels very aggrieved on behalf
of the children as they have been in serious training
since last year September and now will not get a chance
to exhibit their talents. He even explored the possibility
with Mr. Lester Blackette of the children participating
in the Nevis mini Olympics set for Wednesday 23rd
March but was told that there are limited lanes available
for the event due to the number of schools that are
participating. He was however exploring another possibility
of the children doing some exhibition races during
the intermission period.
He is confident that one of his athletes, eight year
old Olujede Bridge water, is the quickest under 9
female athlete in the Federation and possibly, in
the Caribbean. She won the under 9 category in the
inter Primary meet last year and was also the overall
female champion of the meet.
He is dumbfounded that it has been expressed that
she would be needed to represent St.Kitts in the upcoming
Caribbean Union of Teachers meet scheduled for July
in St.Kitts, when she is being denied the opportunity
to display her talents at a local meet.
Efforts to get 'the other side of the story' from
the St.Kitts Athletics Association President failed
up to press time.
