Jamaican Dancehall
artiste Mr. Vegas and Trinidad Soca Queen Fay-Ann
Lyons will be performing live in St. Kitts on April
23rd.
As part of the ICC World Twenty20 West Indies 2010
promotional campaign for the upcoming series, Mr.
Vegas and Lyons collaborated to produce the tournament
song "Bring It".
According to Clement Ogarro, Communications Officer
responsible for St. Kitts-Nevis Public Relations for
the WICB, the duo will arrive in St. Kitts on April
22nd and spend two days. He clarified that it would
not be a concert in the usual sense but a "Flash
Concert" where the pair would only perform the
Tournament song.
"The artistes will arrive the day before they
are scheduled to perform and leave the day after.
I just want to emphasize that this is not a concert
where Mr. Vegas and Fay-Ann will be performing their
music. The artistes will be here to promote the Tournament
by performing the campaign song "Bring It"
only," he told The Observer.
He informed that on Friday, April 23rd the 'flash
concert' would take place at 3:30 until 5 pm in the
heart of downtown Basseterre. A 26-piece steel orchestra
led by Melvin Hewlett and Nigel Williams will open
the event by performing the national anthems of the
8 participating countries. Other entertainment would
include a performance by a member of Mr. Vegas' entourage
as well as a Michael Jackson impersonator.
St. Kitts will also see a Bus Tour that will span
four dates, April 7 at the Ferry Terminal, April 13
at The Circus, April 21 at Old Road and Sandy Point,
and April 28 at Bakers Corner and Maynard Park, Cayon.
"We will have one of those Omni busses decorated
and branded for the ICC tournament and staff and local
celebrities will travel around the island creating
a party mood for the event. There will music, many
give-aways of ICC World Twenty20 tournament paraphernalia
and several of the players from the West Indies Female
team and the England team are slated to be onboard
during the bus tours," Ogarro said.
St Kitts will stage the women's group stages of the
tournament from April 30- May 16. The Super 8 teams-
West Indies, England, Australia, South America, New
Zealand, India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan- will begin
arriving in St. Kitts from as early as April 11 for
the month-long tint.
The first match is scheduled for May 5th when West
Indies face South Africa and the exciting cricket
action will culminate May 16 with the Women's Final.
Ogarro said the excitement and buzz about ICC cricket
returning to the Federation is building as the tournament
draws near. He said he has fielded numerous calls
from persons overseas inquiring about tickets for
the event.
"We are now feeling the vibe about cricket coming
back to our shores. Persons are inquiring about purchasing
tickets however the tickets to the games in St. Kitts
will be free to the general public. The ticket offices
at East Park Range will open from next week and all
you have to do is show up with your I.D. and collect
as many as 4 tickets per person."
