Nevis X1 Trounces English Visitors
A one hundred and ten persons contingent from the visting
combination of the Dunnington and Caribbean Sports clubs
out of Yorkshire in England journeyed to Nevis yesterday
as part of a tour of the Federation of St.Kitts and
Nevis.
The two clubs have combined to tour the Federation every
two years due to the instrumentality of one of their
key players Harwood Williams (former Kittitian batsman)
in conjunction with former West Indies opener, Stuart
Williams.
The contingent contains a number of disciplines which
includes two cricket teams-a senior team and an intermediate
team. There is also a Netball team and a Football team.
The senior team engaged a Nevis invitational X1 in a
30 overs encounter at the Elquemedo Willet Park. The
Nevis team batted first and were off to a rapid start,
despite the early loss of the wicket of Carlon Smithen.
West Indies opener Kieron Powell then teamed up with
Kejel Tyson in an exciting century stand before Powell
gifted his wicket on 49. Tyson went on to score 56.
Tonito Willet and Carlos Adolphus then thrilled the
crowd to some exciting shots all around the Park. Willet
was stumped for 64 and Adolphus was not out on 53. Aquito
Willet also chipped in with a quick fire 22 before he
perished.
Nevis amassing an amazing 296 for 5 in just 30 overs.

FOOTBALL
School Fights off English scare
A visiting Dunnington and Caribbean Football team
out of Yorkshire in England engaged the third place
winners in the recently concluded local Football league,
Combined Schools, last evening.
The school team commenced the game a little flat footed
as apparently they had been told that the game was
set to commence at 7pm. However the visitors were
rearing to go from about 5.30 p, right after the conclusion
of a Cricket match played earlier. The schoolboys
started without trusted goalie Jurnel Turner and within
the first five minutes of the game, the Englishmen
found the back of the net after a superb series of
passes culminated with a bomber to the far corner
of the goal.
Not long after, with Jurnel Turner in goal, the young
goalie aggressively tried to intercept one of the
opposing forwards and was left flat footed as the
ball sailed past him to the back of the net.
With the school boys down 2 goals to nil, some spectators
were already predicting a 10 to nil in favour of the
visitors and there was already some aggression being
shown by players on both sides as they pushed, tugged
and shoved each other in the attempt to gain control
of the game.
However, the school boys rebounded as the visitors
appeared to tire and found the back of the net four
times.
Final score: Combined Schools 4 Dunnington/Caribbean
3.
