Police Get 16th Illegal Weapon Off The Street

Police have taken 16 illegal guns off the Federation's streets so far this year and pledge to continue their efforts in this regard.

On Tuesday evening (Apr. 27) police recovered one .38 revolver with three rounds of matching ammunition at the latest homicide scene. The very next day another weapon was taken into custody when members of the St. Kitts and Nevis Defense Force found one .38 revolver with three rounds of matching ammunition while on an operation at White's Mountain in the Cayon area.

Early Thursday morning police found one .22 revolver and three rounds of matching ammunition in an abandoned building in the Irish Town area. These weapons and ammunition will be made available for further analysis if necessary.

The police have attributed their success in this critical area largely to assistance from the general public, and have publicly thanked them.

Minister of National Security Hon. Sam Condor said crime fighting could not be successful without the collaborative effort of the entire nation. He commended those members of the public who have given information to police that have resulted in arrests and the recovery of illegal weapons.

"There must be collaboration between the community and the police, but it must be initiated by the police with the encouragement and support of the community. That is happening now, which is why we were able to get 16 guns off the street; through the help and assistance of the community."
