No Leads on Gov't HQ Shooting
By Sheena Brooks

Government Headquarters

Police are still unable to find the perpetrator(s) behind last Friday's brazen shooting, when someone opened fire on the Government Headquarters.

According to police, "On Friday 31st April police responded to a report of shooting which occurred at approximately 11:00 p.m. at Church Street in the vicinity of Government Headquarters. Shots were fired from a vehicle traveling down Church Street and the police on duty at Government Headquarters returned fire. No one has been reported injured. The scene has been processed by officers of the Crime Scene Department. Investigations are ongoing."

Unconfirmed sources claim only two shots were fired from a black car, which bore no license plates. It was unclear if the officer was the intended target. The federal command centre, which houses the offices of the Prime Minister and other government officials, was open for business on Tuesday. The incident occurred less than 48 hours after Minister of National Security Hon. Sam Condor held a press conference to address the nation's crime situation where he blamed the local media for the 'state of affairs' in the Federation.

Police are also investigating a break-in of the Electricity Department which occurred Monday, April 3. The statutory corporation, located on the corner of Central and Sprott Streets was robbed of an undisclosed sum of money. Officials within the Department say no electronics were stolen and after being closed on Tuesday, the offices were re-opened for business on Wednesday morning.

Although it was said by unnamed sources that computers were stolen, an employee informed this media house that no equipment was removed. The staffer, who wished to remain anonymous, said that the perpetrator must have been a small person or a child due to the small size of the window the person(s) gained access through. Interestingly, the employee noted that money collected from bill payers was usually deposited at the end of the workday.

"All those persons who were hoping the incident would affect the sending out of bills this month can rest assured that they will be getting their bills on time," the employee added.
