Nevis Police carried out a search on resident Judy Browne-Claxton's home on Craddock Road last week. The search was conducted with regard to the recent theft of flat screen televisions from the Four Seasons Resort.
A firearm and ammunition were uncovered in the bedroom occupied by Randy Browne, Browne-Claxton's son.
Consequently, both mother and son were arrested; Browne-Claxton because the contraband was found in her house. Inspector Mitchell of the Charlestown Police Station told The Observer that she was released on the same day of the arrest.
Earl Boddie and John Cornelius were also arrested and charged in connection with the television theft. Inspector Mitchell confirmed that more than one television was recovered at Boddie's residence.
On Wednesday, May 19, bail was granted in the amount of EC$5000 with two sureties (Boddie and Cornelius).
Browne appeared in the District ‘C' Magistrate Court last Friday, May 21, for five charges that he is currently facing -- possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, importation, adapting a firearm, and in his connection with the stolen flat screen televisions, larceny and receiving.
Browne stood before the St. Kitts Resident Magistrate, Her Worship Claudette Jenkins. He is currently remanded at Her Majesty Prison (HMP) in Basseterre, St. Kitts until Friday, May 28.
Inspector Mitchell noted that it is police procedure that persons who have been charged with an offence(s) are remanded at HMP for one week at a time. Such persons will remain remanded until either the case is tried, or when they apply for bail at the High Court.
Her Worship Jenkins comes to Nevis from time to time to deal with cases that the Nevis Resident Magistrate, Yasmine Clarke, recuses herself from, according to Inspector Mitchell. |
