Bath Villager Severely Chopped
By Kenneth Williams

George Weeks

George Weeks was attacked by a machete-wielding man or men while sitting in his living room at his home in Bath Village, Charlestown at about 10pm last Monday June 7, 2010.

Weeks had finished a long day’s work at Gallows Bay where he runs a little drinks stand. He returned to his home earlier than usual because he was holding some sea food for a customer who made an appointment with him for the seafood delivery.

It is routine for him to play a game of cards or dominoes at the Gazebo at the Charlestown bay front before retiring to his home each evening.

The attacker, Weeks said, intended to take his life. “He gave me 8 or 9 chops to my head, and some on my hand and on my legs.” Weeks told The Observer.

Speaking from his hospital bed in an exclusive interview with The Observer Weeks said he did not think he would make it. “I thought I was dead already. He intended to kill me.”

He said that he has lost a lot of blood and his eyes got dark.

“My head and face was full of blood, when I got to the hospital they had to cut the shirt off of me because my body was drenched in blood. I didn’t think I would live.”

Weeks said he screamed loudly. He said his assailant turned off the lights in his house to make it difficult for him to see who it was.

He said he crawled to the neighbor’s house and knocked but other villagers began to gather when they heard him shouting for help.

Weeks is warded in a stable condition at the Alexandra Hospital in Charlestown.
