Triumphant Myers returns home

One of Nevis’ top body builders, Jalmyn Myers, returned home on Tuesday evening to a warm welcome by Family members, friends and fellow club members at Bull’s Gym.

Myers landed at the Vance Amory Airport at approximately 6.15 pm and was met by Body building Oficial in the Federation of St.Kitts-Nevis, Joseph Liburd and Desmond Liburd, owner of Bull’s gym in Gingerland where Myers does his regular training routines.

Asst. Commissioner of Police Joseph Liburd explained that there were some initial nervous moments for the Federation contingent when Myers was not called out for the Novice show down as was expected. Apparently there was a mix up and the other five athletes were called and Myers was not. Myers then found himself in the uncomfortable position of settling the issue with the organizers. However, when he was called as the sixth contestant in the category, the crowd literally went wild and from their response, ‘I knew it was a foregone conclusion’ stated Liburd. Myers won the novice category quite handsomely.

He further explained that in the Lightweight category he knew that Myers had his hands full as the more experienced Lucian of St.Maarten not only looked good but gave the crowd a really good show.

Myers for his own part indicated that he was not nervous. Once he had sorted out the discrepancies in the first category, he just went and gave the crowd something to remember. He also stated that when he saw Lucian back stage, he decided very early that at least he was going to make sure of the second place in the Lightweight category –and that he did.

Desmond Liburd of Bull’s gym fame was totally elated. He stated that Myers had stopped training and stopped coming to the gym and he went after him because he knows the potential he has. “I had to give him some hard words too but he returned and now he is making me proud”, he said.

Asked about his next move, Myers indicated that he will be continuing intense training in preparation for his next big event in Aruba, to be held in October of this year—the Caribbean and Central American body building competition.

Wharton destroys St.James’

Young Taj Wharton cupped the man of the match award for his team as the TDC Primary school crciket competition continued at Grove Park yesterday.

Wharton representing the Ivor Walters Primary School versus St.James’ swung his bat lustily for 25 when he batted and then returned to collect 6 wickets to make it a memorable day for himself.

Trott century takes England Lions to victory

Jonathan Trott's 118 guided England Lions to victory over West Indies A at Northampton. In a contest that continually threatened to become tense it was the class of Trott, Alastair Cook and Ian Bell that edged England Lions home after a sensational hundred by Keith Edwards carried the tourists to a competitive 279.

Trott was unceremoniously dumped out of both England's limited-overs teams as they looked for the right combination to deliver their new-found 'fearlessness', but today he displayed nous and power of his own to anchor the chase to perfection.

Set 280 for victory, what had looked a challenging total became harder when Steven Davies, opening alongside Cook, fell for 11 to Gavin Tonge. Davies has been in fine form this season for Surrey, especially in limited-overs cricket, but his wicket brought Trott to the crease and together with Cook, the pair laid the foundations for the successful chase.

In commenting on the ruling, President of the Nevis cricket Association Ronald Powell indicated that all of the cricketers were previously spoken to in terms of what was expected of them as ambassadors of Nevis and each of them was given a copy of the established code of conduct. “We have to send a clear message to the cricketers that no matter how talented they may be, in representing the island, they have to set high standards”, he said.

TDC Primary School Cricket update

Only one game was played in the TDC sponsored Primary School competition yesterday as the action got off to a late start at Grove Park. The match between VOJN and Charlestown Primary was not played and has been rescheduled to Friday morning—2nd July 2010.

The match played created much excitement however, despite the fact that at one point the young cricketers were forced to play in a constant slow drizzle.

St.Thomas’ Primary batted first versus the Ivor Walters Primary and totaled 107 in the allotted 12 overs. The Ivor Walters Primary School rallied valiantly cheered on by their supporters but fell just 9 runs short at the close—99 all out, to hand victory to a jubilant St.Thomas’ team.

The only scheduled match for today is:

Big Rock defeats Masters

The Big Rock team got the better of the Nevis Masters’ representative team last evening at the Ramsbury grounds—the unofficial Meritzer Williams Park.

The Nevis masters’ struggled initially just fielding 9 players up to the 8th over of the 15 overs a side contest. However, shortly after the tenth payer arrived wickets started to tumble.

St. Kitts & Nevis Women’s Volleyball National Team Bring Home Gold!
“Pure Guts and Determination”

The St. Kitts & Nevis Volleyball National Team left the island to represent their country at the 2010 ECVA Senior Women’s Championship. The tournament was held from 24th – 28th June, 2010 in St. Lucia. The national team played a total of 5 matches throughout the tournament, losing one match and bringing home the Gold.

In the preliminary round St. Kitts played St. Vincent on Thursday morning, beating them 3 – 0. That afternoon following the St. Vincent match, they went up against neighboring island and arch rivals Antigua. St. Kitts lost that match 3 – o. Coach, Steadroy “Star” Collins stated, “This match in particular, served as a wakeup call for us, we regrouped and decided we were not taking any team for granted because every team was there to win.” St. Kitts played French St. Martin on Friday night to secure a place in the semi-finals. They won the first two (2) sets and were leading in the third set when a key player became physically impaired. Although the team was concerned about their teammate and lost the third set, they rallied beat French St. Martin 3 -1 and advanced to the semi-finals.

St. Kitts played St. Lucia in the semi-final. The first set was a nail biting one with St. Kitts winning 25-23! Playing at home and the pre-tournament favorite, St. Lucia rebounded to take sets #2 and #3 beating St. Kitts 25 – 15 and 25 - 10. It came down to who wanted it more. Coach Collins told his team, “We cannot outhit St. Lucia so in order for us to win we have to play defense”. The team responded by winning sets 4 and 5 25-15 and 15-11 to advance to the finals.”

St. Kitts and Dominica were in different zones, St. Kitts in Group B and Dominica in Group A, but took similar paths to the championship game. They were both runners-up in their respective groups in the preliminary round but played well when it mattered, in the cross-over semi-finals where the top team from Group A plays the runner-up from Group B and vice-versa. So when Dominica beat Antigua on Saturday night and then St. Kitts dispatched St. Lucia the finals would feature two teams that were getting better as the tournament progressed. St. Kitts brutalized Dominica in the first set winning 25-13.

Dominica responded well and won a hard-fought second set 29-27. St. Kitts took the third set 25-19 and let the fourth slip losing 18 - 25. The fifth set was a fitting climax for a championship match with both teams exhausted and playing on physical and emotional reserves. St. Kitts prevailed with the narrowest of margins 18 – 16 to bring home gold and team-mate Brenda Allen was also announced Tournament MVP.

The victory was such emotional one, bringing the entire team to tears. It was a day where hard work, synergy, determination and guts all attributed to winning the championships. The St. Kitts and Nevis National Women’s Volleyball team will now advance to the Norceca Championships to be held in Mexico in 2011.

The National Women’s Volleyball team would like to say a special thank you to Digicel, MacPennies, American Airlines/American Eagle, Rum Barrel, Gregory “Chef” Austin, Kachi Armony, St. Kitts Cooperative Credit Union, Kajola Kristada, Harowe Servo Controls and Mau Pau. Blatter apologizes for disallowed goal

Fifa president Sepp Blatter has apologized to the Football Association over Frank Lampard's disallowed goal in England's World Cup defeat by Germany.

Blatter said the error had convinced him to reopen the debate on goal-line technology at a board meeting in July.

Lampard was denied a goal in Sunday's 4-1 second-round loss, even though his shot clearly crossed the line.

Blatter also said sorry to Mexico after Carlos Tevez's offside goal was allowed to stand in Argentina's 3-1 victory.

Uruguayan referee Jorge Larrionda, who missed Lampard's goal, and Italian referee Roberto Rosetti, who allowed Tevez's offside Argentina goal to stand, have not been retained for the remainder of the tournament.

Lampard's strike came during a spell of England dominance and would have levelled the score at 2-2.

The high-profile error sparked a clamour for referees to be given more assistance, with international players' union FifPro leading calls for goal-line technology to be introduced.
Blatter said the issue will now form part of the agenda at next month's meeting of the International FA Board (IFAB), the body that decides the laws of the game.

"It is obvious that after the experiences so far at this World Cup it would be a nonsense not to reopen the file on goal-line technology," stated Blatter.

The Tevez goal - the first in Argentina's win on Sunday - was replayed on the screens in the stadium, sparking angry clashes between officials and the Mexican players and coaches.

"Personally I deplore it when you see evident referee mistakes but it's not the end of a competition or the end of football, this can happen," added Blatter.

In related news:
The International Cricket Council is expected to confirm on Thursday that the umpire decision review system (DRS) will be used in next year's World Cup.

But DRS, used in some Tests, will not be trialled in one-day internationals before the ICC's flagship tournament begins next February in south Asia.

The ICC may pay for some broadcasting costs to ensure all 49 World Cup games get DRS technology as standard.

The system allows for players to "appeal" against on-field decisions.

The ICC will formally announce its plans at the end of its annual conference in Singapore.
However, it has already signalled its intention to adopt DRS across all Tests and the World Cup following recommendations from two of its internal committees.

The review system was introduced as a trial in June 2008. Teams are permitted two opportunities per innings to contest an on-field decision, losing a challenge for an unsuccessful review.

One of the most contentious issues has been the reluctance of some home cricket boards to pay for the necessary infrastructure supplied by host broadcasters, while some series have not had access to certain technologies.

In such instances, DRS has been shelved.

But DRS has been further dogged by the apparent failure of the third umpire, who reviews the video evidence, to come up with the same verdict as those suggested by television pundits.

Interviewed ahead of the Singapore conference, ICC general manager David Richardson acknowledged that the cost issue of DRS had to be addressed.

"Where the advertising generated by the broadcaster is quite low, to limit his costs of production the broadcaster may ask the member country to provide full costs of ball-tracking [as supplied by Hawk-Eye] which is about $60,000 (£40,000)," Richardson told BBC Sport.

The senior Nevis squad played several matches over the weekend in preparation for the upcoming Leeward Islands 20/20 series to be played in Antigua in July.

As the action continued in the TDC Primary schools’ cricket league, Philo Wallace played a dominant hand, well supported by a more sedate innings by Ross Powell and later a cameo from Javani Tyson to lead the Charlestown Primary school to an impressive score versus the Joycelyn Liburd Primary school at Grove Park yesterday.

Wallace pulled and drove with ferocity, urged on by Coach Elquemedo Willet. At the end of 12 overs, the CPS had scored 152 for 1: phyla Wallace 86 not out; Ross Powell 31 and Javani Tyson a quick fire 23 not out.

The JLP got to 75 for 6 with L. Freeman getting 22 and T. prentice 8. Philo Wallace got 2 wickets and R. Ferguson 1.

In match two, VOJN defeated St.Thomas’ in a tense encounter which came own to the final over.

VOJN batted first and scored 79 for 6 with A. Liburd getting 43 and R.Etienne 9.

S. Herbert got 3 wickets; I. Liburd and H. Harvey got 1 each.

St.Thomas’ got to a close 75 for 9 in the final over, just failing to seal the deal, with all of the coaches and would be coaches screaming to the top of their lungs. The coolest person on the park appeared to be Coach Eddy Caines.

Titans Grand Prix this weekend

The Titans Athletics club will be hosting ‘The Titans Grand Prix 2010’ at Grove Park this coming Sunday 4th July.

According to President of the club, Mr.Timothy Caines, the mega event will feature athletes from Antigua and Barbuda, St.kitts and Nevis.

The events to be features for the day include the 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1500 meters. There will also be field events such as the javelin, the long jump and the shot put. The athletes will run in three categories-under 15, under 17 and open. There will also be some under 13 exhibition races.

There will be six clubs represented: Two from Antigua and Barbuda; two from St.Kitts and the host club Titans and the Gladiators out of Nevis.

The meet will commence at Grove Park at 2pm. However, a reception and opening ceremony is slated for the Pinneys Beach Hotel on the evening of Saturday 3rd July 2010.

Caines is convinced that his athletes will do well and is inviting the general public to show up in their numbers to witness some really exciting races.

Cover charge: $10.00 adults; $5.00 for children under 12 and $150.00 or vendors.

Gladiators’ athletes qualify for International Meets

Manager/ Owner of the Gladiators athletic club, Mr. Wakeley Daniel has revealed that a number of athletes from his club have qualified for international events upcoming and have indeed made it to the St.Kitts-Nevis representative team.

For the CAC games to be held in the Dominican Republic three persons from the club have made it to the national team in the persons of Carifta gold medalist Adrian Williams; Javid Stapleton and long distance sensation Kaska Forbes.

The three athletes excelled at the national qualifying events held in St.Kitts over last week end.

In addition, the NACAC under 23 team which will be travelling to participate in a meet in Florida in July, had two other club members included: Miles Walters and Jevon Claxton.

Daniel expects his athletes to perform well further indicated that after some initial visa problems, it has been confirmed that Tesril Nisbett and Miles Walters will indeed be going off to USA based universities in August.

Walk for your Health

The second ‘Walk for your health’ took place on Thursday 24th June 2010. This walk which is geared towards persons who work in Charlestown and other interested individuals is hosted by the Ministry of Social development under the direct supervision of national trainer, Masefield Nisbett.

This time around, only 38 persons participated. This includ3d the senior Nevis cricket squad, who all had clear instructions that they must complete the course, running.

The walk commenced at the Nevis cultural center with prayer and at he end of the course, Nisbett led all into a series of ‘warm down’ exercises.

Horse racing alive on Nevis

Just in case anyone was wondering if Horse racing is no longer a sport on Nevis, well think again! The Nevis Turf & Jockey Club has been revitalized and is planning to keep he sport going in the accustomed tradition. There has been an election for officers for 2010 and Richard Lupinacci was elected president. Other officers are Maurice Stapleton, VP; Roosevelt Daniel, Treasurer; Maureen Archibald, Secretary; Spencer Howell, Asst Secretary. Directors are Carl Claxton. Ursula Huggins-Whitney and Emmanuel Jeffers.

The NTJC wants to bring back to Nevis the horse racing aura that the island has had for many years. As a beginning, the first race meet will be on July 4, Sunday, at 2 PM at the Indian Castle Race Track. PRO for the club, Mrs. Ursual Huggins-Whitney has indicated that the Local horses have left St Kitts and are back in Nevis, She is hoping that Nevis horse racing enthusiasts will show up in their numbers for the event.

For the meet on July 4 at 2PM St Kitts enthusiasts are also invited over. The gate charge is $20 per person, with children under 12 free. The NTJC is making the boxes available for the Culturama races. Persons wishing to secure such a privilege can contact Ursula Huggins-Whitney for details. Jalmyn Myers-making a name for himself

Top bodybuilder on Nevis, Jalmyn Myers continues to make a name for himself. Over the past weekend, Myers travelled to St. Maarten to participate in the inaugural JCS Gym Body building and Fitness show.

This interisland event included four competing islands: French St.Martin; Dutch St.Maarten, Anguilla and St.Kitts-Nevis. The athletes exhibited their muscles in three categories: Novice or beginners; light weight and middle weight.

The lone athlete representing St. Kitts – Nevis was Jalmyn Myers and he competed in the Novice and light weight categories respectively.

The overall results were as follows:

Novice category: 1 st Jalmyn Myers 2 nd. Jermaine Browne of Dutch St. Maarten 3 rd Esdias Concoult of French St. Maarten

Light weight category: 1 st Lucien Giomiette of Dutch St. Maarten. 2 nd Jalmyn Myers of Nevis and 3rd Joseph Ryan of St.Maarten.

Middle weight category: 1 st Verdine Connor of Anguilla 2 nd Leon Bussue of French St.Maarten and 3 rd Desmond Paul of Anguilla.

The action continued in the TDC sponsored Primary Schools cricket competition on Friday 25 th June 2010. Two games were played at Grove Park: The E. Pemberton team engaged the St. James team. EPP batted first and made 102 for 6 off 12 overs (games reduced to 12 overs). Jomani Elliott top scored with 35, S. Liburd- 12, V. Arthurton- 16. For St. James, Oreon Browne 3 overs 19 runs 2wickets. Melissa Clarke (the lone female in the encounter) 3 overs 20 runs and 2 wickets.

The much talked about match up between a masters X1 and a Big Rock X1 did not take place as scheduled on Sunday 27 th June.

It has been revealed that the match has now been postponed to tomorrow Tuesday at the same venue-the Ramsbury grounds—the unofficial Meritzer Williams Park.

Both teams are kindly asked to take note of the change.

GT United gains historic win

It was a champagne moment for the GT United team in every sense of the word on Saturday night—26 th June, as they celebrated their first ever win in the local female cricket league. The Guyanese team overpowered the Alex Stars (Nurses) in what was described as ‘the clash of the ants” as the two teams which up to match time were without any points in the league, locked horns.

Alex Stars batted first and scored a competitive 75 for 6 in 12 overs. I. Hendrickson and C. Walters both top scored with 8 runs each and Dionne Flanders got 6. There were 29 extras. For GT, Nero got 2 wickets for 17 runs and Sharda 2 for 12.

The GT team then cruised to victory in just 9.5 overs—78 for 3 at the close. Nickace and Mamoad teamed up in an exciting opening partnership of 36 runs before they were separated. Both openers got 19 runs each. Pamela later chipped in with 9 not out. Their cause was also nicely helped with 23 extras. The GT team then congregated and the champagne flowed freely.

In match two on that same evening, Empire faced off with St.Thomas' in what was billed to be a thriller. Empire batted first and got off to a flyer led by some serious power hitting by Catherine Joseph, Charmaine Walters, Rozel Liburd and Diana Browne. At the end of 12 overs, Empire had amassed a commanding 114 for 7. Charmaine Walters 32; Catherine Joseph 31; Rozel Liburd and Diana Browne 11 runs each.

For St.Thomas', Nevilla Daniel got 2 for 23; V. Williams 3 for 22 and Tasha Forrester 1 for 13.

St.Thomas' then struggled right through their entire innings, losing wickets at regular intervals. They eventually succumbed at 64 for 7. C. Nisbett top scored with 10. Nevilla Daniel and D. Lawrence both got 7 each. For Empire, J. Dore got 2 for 7; while Rozel Liburd, Sherilyn Liburd, Charmaine Walters and Patsy Hanley all got 1 wicket each.

On Sunday night-27 th June, Super Rockers engaged Brown Hill in another expected big match. Super Rockers batted first and disappointed to be just 53 for 7 at the end of their 12 overs. S. Hanley top scored with 6 and there were all of 31 extras!

For Brown Hill, Valerie Liburd bowled impressively for her 2 for 6 haul, while Tresia Clarke, Claudia Saddler Rosie Dunrod and Kerisha Powell all got 1 wicket each.

Brown Hill took just 8.1 overs to get to 56 for 5 to take victory. Rosie Dunrod and Tresia Clarke both got 9 each, Kel Williams 7 not out and Kerisha Powell 6. There were 21 extras. Sheila Archibald got 2 for 16; Jasmine Herbert, Sherilyn Smithen and Chaliese Browne all got 1 wicket each.

In an anticlimactic match two, St.Thomas' obviously stung by their defeat of the previous evening, came out and burst the GT bubble. GT batted first and could only manage 29 all out in just 7 overs. Turza top scored with 5 and Nero got 4. St.Thomas' was mean on the night, only giving away 9 extras. Nevilla Daniel was spectacular with her 4 wickets for 4 runs which included two superb caught and bowled which she stylishly completed one handed. Tasha Parris got 2 for 9; Denise Browne and Rosa Mills got 1 wicket each.

St.Thomas' got off to a shaky and cautious start but later raced to victory on the back of two huge consecutive sixes from the bat of Nevilla Daniel—30 for 1 in just 3 overs.

This coming Thursday, the first round of matches which were rained out at the start of the league will be played:

Super Rockers v St.Thomas' in match one and Highlights Int v Brown Hill in game two.

Some statistics revealed by main scorer ‘Brutus' reveal that there have been 770 extras bowled in the tournament so far!

LICA GM Set for July

According to a release from President of the Leeward Islands Cricket Association, Mr. Gregory Shillingford the LICA general meeting will be held on Saturday July 3rd 2010 at the City View Hotel in St.John’s, Antigua.

The release further indicated that the meting was moved by a motion by the Montserrat Cricket Association and seconded by its Antiguan counterparts.

Runako out of 20/20 series

West Indies middle order batsman Runako Morton has written to the Leeward Islands Cricket Board indicating his unavailability for the upcoming 20/20 cricket series which will be played in Antigua in early July.

In his correspondence to the Board, Morton excused himself due to ‘family reasons’. It is understood that the hard hitting batsman is presently expecting the birth of a third addition to his growing family.

Masters to engage Big Rock

Director of Sports on Nevis, Mr. Lincoln Barry has arranged a friendly encounter with representatives of the Nevis Masters squad versus the Big Rock team. The match is set to be played on Sunday 27th June at the Ramsbury grounds, starting at 3pm.

According to a spokesperson for the Big Rock team, the Guyanese based team is expected to be at full strength with Nevis representative players of the caliber of Carlos Adolphus and Larillal, along with established local cricketers in Nazir and others in the mix.

On the other hand, it is understood that Masters captain Wendell ‘Micey’ Wallace will be unavailable for the encounter, along with Sydney Newton and Curtis Morton Sr.

Brown and St.James’ ‘bring the house down’

Defending champions St.James’ and Brown Hill created much excitement at Grove Park last evening when the two teams locked horns in the female cricket league for 2010.

St.James’ won the toss and elected to bat first and helped with a bountiful supply of extras and the fine stroke play of captain Judy Morton and Junella Burke were off to a half century opening stand before losing Burke’s wicket.

An outstanding cameo by Giselle Skeete then seemed for all intents and purposes to have taken the wind out of the Brown Hill sail as she steepled a few wind assisted sixes way over the boundary.

At the end of the allotted 12 overs, St.James’ was comfortably placed on 124 for 4.

To compound matters, Brown Hill started slowly in the first three overs of their response getting only fifteen for the loss of one wicket. However, that totally camouflaged the fire works that were in store. Valencia Hanley then teamed up with Tresia Clarke to play some scintillating shots all around the Park. One straight hit for six by Clarke was described as a ‘big man shot’ by one spectator. Hanley then tore into the medium pace of Sheryl Sutton to launch her for three consecutive massive sixes towards Swannies and the Brown Hill bench was no longer sitting.

It came down to 25 required from three overs when Captain Judy Morton finally took the ball. Her extra pace and accuracy proved a little too much for the Brown Hill big hitters and aided by Giselle Skeete, it came down to 20 required from two and 15 from the final over. To make matters worst, Hanley was bowled ‘neck and crop’ by Morton. Brown Hill eventually succumbed on an impressive 111 for 5.

Summarized scores: St.James’ 124 for 4 from 12 overs: Judy Morton 31; Giselle Skeete 30 and Junella Burke 14. Extras-a whopping 45!

Match two was an expected anti climax as dominant Highlights Int waltzed to an easy victory over GT United. GT United won the toss and batted first amassing a surprising total of 61 for 7 from what appeared to be a lack luster bowling performance from Highlights. Captain Nero top scored with 8 and Nickace scored 5. There were all of 36 extras.

For Highlights, L. Berkley was impressive with 3 for 13; Ruby Chapman 2 for 13; Malva Rawlins 1 for 14 and Esther Matthew 1 for 6. Included in Matthews spell was a spectacular attempt to take a return catch off her own bowling. She dived, got the ball in both hands and for some unexplained reason the ball spilled from her grasp. Team mate Malva Rawlins is convinced that the ball was spilled as Esther made an attempt to hang on to her falling wig!

Highlights then cruised to victory in just 5.2 overs with Ruby Chapman not out for the fourth consecutive time on 29. She has now amassed 180 runs for the season without being dismissed. Curleanne Parris was not out on 20.

Primary School Cricket series bowls off

The 2010 Primary school cricket series bowled off at Grove Park on Thursday 24th June 2010. Prior to the only game of the day, an impressive ceremony was held in the Grove Park pavilion.

The ceremony was chaired by Sports Coordinator in the Ministry of Sports, Mrs. Lydia Thompson-Claxton who asked the young cricketers to follow the example of the top local players who have already excelled at the sport and to demonstrate true sportsmanship.

Mrs. Tasha Forrester performed the invocation and the entire assembly rendered the national anthem.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social Development, Mr. Alsted Pemberton explained that his Ministry had made some major investments in order to ensure improvement in sports generally within the schools. He mentioned the recent appointment of Primary Schools cricketing coach, Deryck Parry and Communications Officer Curtis Morton whose role it will be to highlight the youngsters in their sporting activities.

Curtis Morton also filled in for NCA President Ronald Powell who was unavoidably absent. He got some positive feedback from the young cricketers as regards those who wanted to go all the way to the West indies team and told them to play the game in a fair manner and challenged them to make sure that one day, their names will be registered in the hall of fame at the Nevis Sports Museum.

Sponsor’s representative, Mr. Warren Moving then eloquently elaborated on the attributes of his company TDC and indicated that even during the present difficult economic conditions; his company was willing to invest in the youth of the country. He then officially declared the league opened.

Mrs. Lydia Claxton then delivered the vote of thanks.

Immediately following the ceremony, the only match of the day was played.

The Elizabeth Pemberton Primary School won the toss and elected to bat first versus the Joycelyn Liburd Primary School. At the end of the allotted 12 overs, they were well placed on a challenging 75 for 1. Their innings was led by a superb 40 not out by the Chanderpaul look alike, R.Balgobin who pulled and drove with some degree of ferocity and even essayed the reverse swing on two occasions. S. Liburd went for 11. He perished with the score on 57 for no loss.

For the JLP, Zudan Cameron got 1 wicket for 11 runs.

The JLP team could only muster 58 for 9 with Darvin Challenger top scoring with 14.

For the EPP Bisood followed up a magnificent running one handed catch to finish with the impressive figures of 4 wickets for 5 runs with his unplayable off spinners. Vaughn Arthurton bagged 3 for 15.

The EPP winning by 17 runs.
