| July 8 -- Following a well received inaugural public forum three weeks ago, The CARE Initiative will continue its efforts to promote reasoned and fair public debate on national issues with a panel discussion on the subject of taxation.
This topic logically follows that of our first forum which was ‘The Economy – Fiscal and Developmental Issues’ and is of particular relevance at a time when Government is in the process of restructuring its tax system with the impending abolition of a number taxes, the introduction of Value Added Tax (VAT) and other measures; and when the Federation is faced with significant debt and other challenges.
The issue also provides an opportunity for the public to weigh in on these issues and offer perspectives and suggestions which could add to the debate as well as provide guidance to relevant decision makers on the way forward.
The public is invited to the second public forum being organized by The CARE Initiative
Subject: Taxation – VAT and What?
Time & Date: Eight o’clock on the evening of Monday July 12, 2010
Venue: Methodist Church Hall (formerly Basseterre Boys School) Victoria Road, Basseterre
The panel will feature persons professionally familiar with the workings of the tax system in St. Kitts-Nevis, representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the business sector, tax professionals and the youth of the country.
The goal of The CARE Initiative (Country Advancement through Responsible Expression) is to create an environment for positive change in the social, economic, political and cultural development of the country through facilitating sound, reasoned and fair public debate on national issues. |
