| July 6 -- On April 30, 2010, the police officer on duty at Government Headquarters reported that two rounds of ammunition had been fired at the building, which caused him to discharge a round from his service revolver in response.
Investigations were carried out, which included a series of ballistic tests on the service revolver used by the said officer as well as on the single bullet recovered from the scene. As a result of the investigation, two disciplinary charges were levied against the officer: making a false statement and discreditable conduct.
The officer pleaded guilty to both charges, resulting in his dismissal.
A statement released on the issue stated, in part: “The Police High Command hopes that incidents of this nature will not recur and wishes to reinforce its zero tolerance on such acts of ill discipline which are unacceptable in the Police Force.
“The Police regret the occurrence of this incident which created an atmosphere of heightened insecurity in the minds of the public at large and wishes to assure the residents and citizens of the Federation of its commitment to maintain discipline within its ranks and peace and security within all of our communities.”
In other news from the Police Force: the High Command recently informed that Inspector Zenhastel Hector has been appointed to the position of Police Press and Public Relations Officer. Inspector Hector took over from Inspector Vaughan Henderson, who is now on vacation leave. |
