| July 22 -- The St. Kitts and Nevis Red Cross Society distributed several relief packages to the affected residents in the area of St. Pauls yesterday, Wednesday, July 21, after the relevant assessment was done by the Disaster Coordinator in the Red Cross.
Some eight families benefited from our relief packages of blankets, pillows and tarpaulins. These packages were distributed by a team of Red Cross Volunteers to the households badly damaged by flood waters. Many of the families receiving these relief packages were grateful to the Red Cross for its assistance during their time of need.
Disaster Coordinator, Mrs. Kerie Greene assessed the area and it was determined that many of the residents in the St. Pauls area affected, experienced mainly water damage due to serious drainage concerns.
Several of the households visited by the Red Cross volunteers had water damage to furniture, to the property and the foundation.
Bad weather hit the islands from Thursday July 15 and continued through Tuesday, July 20. Although it was not a hurricane and the constant rain, thunder and lightning was a serious reminder to residents to be prepared for the current hurricane season that we are in and which has been forecast to be an active one.
The St. Kitts and Nevis Red Cross is present in the field and is continuing its assessment of the damages in the communities affect and will continue its distribution of relief packages to all affected. |
