Finalists for the Kaiso Contest

“This event is the highlight of our festivities,” said Director of TDC Nevis Ernie France, referring to the up-coming 2010 Senior Kalypso Finals.

On July 27, the finalists for the Kaiso Contest met at the Pinney’s Beach Bar and Restaurant to receive a generous donation by TDC to assist them in their Calypsonian venture on Saturday, July 31.

Halstead Byron, Head of the Culturama Committee, accepted the donation cheque of $300 000 from the TDC Director. Also present at the event was chairperson of the 2010 Senior Kalypso, Patrice Wilkin, and Keesha Jones, a member of the Board of Directors for the TDC group of companies.

Special guests included the Calypsonians who are participating in the Kaiso Contest, including Astro, Baker, Dis ‘n Dat, Hollywood, Queen Kibi, and Pupa Wheeler.

The Calypsonians were presented with a package that contained a sponsorship cheque and complementary passes to the show, among other items.

“There were difficult negotiations,” stated France, “Congratulations to those who made it to the finals on Saturday.”

After presenting the Calypsonians with their packages, there was a draw to determine the order of appearance.

Presenting first will be Pupa Wheeler, followed in order by Hollywood, Nutsie, Queen Kibi, Astro, Dis ‘n Dat, Baker, and I-Soursop.

“TDC is our third biggest sponsor, giving a contribution of $300 000,” said Byron. “I want to congratulate all of the finalists – all eight finalists – and I urge the general public to give the Calypsonians your full support.”

In his closing comments, Byron urged local persons to support institutions such as TDC who provide financial assistance to entertainment activities in these hard economic times.
