Dear Editor:

My wife and I have been coming to Nevis for the past twenty years and consider the Island our second home. It was in that context that when asked to contribute to a new and dynamic program of providing grammar school children with cooked lunches, we were pleased that we were able to help.

That contribution happened almost a year ago. On our most recent visit to Nevis in early December, we were taken on a tour of the school where the new kitchen was recently built.

The kitchen, nearly completed was a heart-warming sight. Soon, we thought, the children of the grammar school would be offered nutritious lunches.

Much to our dismay, however, we learned that the Nevis Island Administration and the St. Kitts Nevis Administration were dragging their feet in the hiring of competent kitchen staff. I asked our guide "what could possibly be the reason for the delay" and he responded with a shrug of the shoulders.

I am saddened by this. What should be a simple task given the magnitude of raising funds and building out the kitchen, it would appear that petty politics is standing in the way of improving the diet of the Nevis' most vulnerable treasurable - its children.

Shame on you.
