Jan. 27 -- Police are investigating a shooting incident that claimed the life of an Old Road man and left two others wounded.
At about midnight Thursday (Jan. 26), police responded to a report that there had been a shooting on the Anchorage Road, Frigate Bay. Shortly after arriving on the scene, Assistant Commissioner of Police Ian Queeley confirmed that a male victim had been shot and killed and a female had been shot but taken to the JNF Hospital. She remains warded in serious condition.
At least two hours after the incident occurred, The Observer was told by senior officials that CID was still processing the scene.
The Observer has since learned that the murder victim was Elvis Stanley, a proprietor of a bar on the Frigate Bay Strip. The female victim was Maria Gumbs, his long-time girlfriend.
Police have offered no details as to what transpired, however reports are that when Stanley and Gumbs were driving out towards the Frigate Bay Road, someone opened fire on the vehicle. There was an unconfirmed report that one of Gumbs’ teenage sons was in the car at the time and was wounded as well.
Up until 2:30 p.m. today (Friday), police remain tight-lipped, and no official police releases have been issued.
This is the Federation’s second murder in 2012. Desroy ‘Piggy' James, of Upper Cayon, was gunned down in his village around 10:30 p.m. on January 7. |
