Feb. 2 -- His Lordship Justice Errol Thomas has sentenced a professed sex offender to a little more than five years behind bars for sexually assaulting two young boys on separate occasions.

Today in court, Douglas Anniel pled guilty to the crimes which were perpetrated on two young men. The first was said to have occurred between the dates of July 11-31, 2010 while the second occurred on June 4, 2011. Both crimes were committed in the Basseterre area.

Justice Thomas initially sentenced Anniel to serve the maximum sentence of four years on each count. Both sentences were, however, reduced by one third on account of his guilty plea. Anniel was ordered to serve two years and eight months for each of the offences, leaving him to serve a total of five years and four months in prison.

In a 2010 case of sexual assault on a minor male, Justice Thomas brought down the judicial hammer on the offenders.

In May of 2011 two men, Mario Harvey and Joseph Herbert, were jointly convicted of buggery. The duo received 10 years each, the maximum penalty for the crime, after they were found guilty of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old male on dates between July and October of 2010. The jury was unanimous in their verdict. Justice Thomas insisted that had it not been for the cap on the punishment for the crime, the two would have received a lengthier sentence.
