Lionel Richie to Headline St. Kitts Music Festival 2013

May 1 -- The iconic R&B crooner Lionel Richie will be the headline act for the 2013 St. Kitts Music Festival, organizers announce.

The full artiste line-up for the 17th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival was revealed Wednesday (May 1) during a Sponsor and Media Breakfast event held at the St. Kitts Marriott.

The Grammy-nominated artiste, it was revealed, will perform on the final night of the Music Festival, his first time ever performing in St. Kitts.

Lionel Richie’s career has spanned 45 years, producing a number of chart-topping pop and love songs including Dancing on the Ceiling; Hello; Say You, Say Me; Truly; Endless Love; and All Night Long.

Richie is the only act out of the US however the Music Festival boasts a long list of outstanding local and regional acts.

The Music Festival kicks off Thursday June 27 with an explosion of Soca from “The Sweetest Band in the World” and reigning Road March Champs Small Axe Band; the newest musical sensation out of Nevis the Kore Band; “The Sugar Band” Nu Vybes Band International; musical pioneers Grandmasters Band; Trinidad Road March King Bunji Garlin and the Soca Empress Fay-Ann Lyons; and Trinidad Soca Monarch SuperBlue.

On Friday 28th June fans will be rocked by new kid on the local block Dejour, who will be making his debut on the Music Festival stage; local rap artiste Dagah; the cool styling of songbird Charles Emanuel; Jamaican songstress Tessanne Chin Jamaican will wow fans with a blend of Dancehall, R&B, and Rock; Dancehall hit-maker Konshens will make the female patrons “Bubble”; Mr. Lover Lover himself the Grammy Award-winning Shaggy ; and the legendary king of Lovers Rock, Beres Hammond.

The festival concludes Saturday 29, June with the Cayon High School Pantastics who will be injecting some local culture and tradition into the event with lively steel-pan selections of popular songs from various genres; accomplished Caribbean Jazz musician Andy Narell, who has played hundreds of concerts and jazz festivals around the world, featuring Relator, one of Trinidad's finest calypsonians along with Special Guest acclaimed trumpet and steel drum player Etienne Charles; and the award-winning Lionel Ritchie.

The 17th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival will take place at the Warner Park Stadium, Festival Chairman Farron Lawrence assured, however the Committee was awaiting a decision by the Ministry of Sports as to whether it will be held on the cricket or football grounds.

Last year’s line-up attracted thousands to the Warner Park Football Stadium with acts including Morgan Heritage, Toni Braxton, Machel Montano and Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley.
