July 1 – Various branches of law enforcement are on the hunt for a group of men who attempted to pull off a daring daylight bank heist Thursday morning. According to information reaching this media house, about five armed and masked men entered the Royal Bank of Canada at Wellington Road sometime after 8:00 a.m. while customers were conducting business. It was not immediately known if the band of robbers was able to get money from the staff or whether any customers were robbed. There were no reported injuries. Police were alerted and arrived on the scene after the men took off. Mobile police units scoured the near By residential areas in an attempt to apprehend the bold robbers before they could get too far. Shaken customers and bank employees stood outside the bank while curious persons gathered outside the neighboring Valumart supermarket and bank environs. The Observer was reliably informed that officers with the Criminal Investigation Department were inside the bank conducting initial investigations. The Observer also spoke with Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Richardson shortly after the incident, and was told that it was not known at that time if the robbers had absconded with any money. He did say that, “CID is at the scene carrying out investigations and police are still out looking for the suspects”. UPDATE : One man is reportedly in custody in connection with the attempted bank robbery. Police have thus far declined to indicate that the man was one of the robbers.
