Bath Villager Shot And Killed Nevis Reporter Story Updated: January 30th 2015 at 1:54 pm Javon Bartlette
A young Bath Village resident became the second person gunned down in Nevis this month. Dead is Javon Bartlette, a 33-year-old father of a young child. Around 7 pm Thursday (Jan 29) area residents reported hearing gunshots. The Observer spoke with someone who was with Bartlette in the yard of Kevin’s Confectioneries and Catering Services in Bath Village. He said while he and Bartlette sat chatting, they heard what sounded like firecrackers. Not long after, they saw two masked men approaching the yard, dressed in all black, only their eyes visible. As they got to the gate, the men opened fire. The person said both he and Bartlette ran but the gunmen ran after Bartlette. He then heard about 6-8 shots before seeing the assailants run off. He went to look for his friend and saw Bartlette on the ground. Bartlette was pronounced dead on the scene. The witness said he assumed the initial firecrackers were lit to distract persons so when the gunfire started they would think it was just more firecrackers. Bartlette’s death is the nation’s fourth so far for 2015.
