Ex Sugar Workers To Get Payout On September 18 LK Hewlett Story Updated: September 01st 2015 at 4:21 pm
Former sugar workers can expect to receive ‘owed’ severance from the government on September 18, one day before the nation celebrates its 32 nd Independence anniversary. Some EC $16 million is expected to be divvied up among the hundreds of persons who applied for consideration for the Sugar Workers Restoration Fund established by the new government in May. No details on how the payments will be made and whether everyone would be paid at the same time, has been made thus far. Attempts to seek information from SWRF Chairman Permanent Secretary Osbert Desuza proved futile. He would only tell The Observer a press release had been issued by the Prime Minister’s Office earlier today (Sept. 1). Up until 4pm no such release had been disseminate to the established media corps from government sources however Timescaribbeanonline, an anonymous news website, posted what appeared to be a government press release on the matter at 1pm.
