The festivities and celebrations of Sugar Mas 42 have ended however Fhunn Vybz, Red Devils and Small Axe Band are still celebrating their big wins for the carnival street activities. The splendor and multi-chroma costumes of Fhunn Vybz’s “Colour Me Happy”earned it Troupe of the Year with 361 points. First place also came with a $25,000 cash prize. Fhunn Vybz almost clean-swept the top awards, winning Largest Troupe, Most Colorful Troupe and King of the Bands (Rainbow Fantasy- Kajali Hanley-Gumbs). The additional wins earned the Mas band $5000 collectively. Nature’s Fury by Banker Mas Camp racked up 353 points to take the 1 st runner-up position and $18,000 while 2nd runner-up went to Tribe by Solid SKB. The band amassed 338 points and earned $15,000 in prize money. 3rd runner-up and $11,000 went to Celebration of Festivals by Phunnmakers with 306 points. Jonelle Rawlins once again captured Queen of the Bands with Nature’s Fury: Tsunami. Small Axe Band has won its second straight Road March title. The popular tune “Hardware”was judged 2013/2014 Road March. The band’s 57 points earned them the grand prize of $10,000. Grand Masters took 1st runner-up with “Who Send Dem”(44 points), Nu Vybes’ “Hook”garnered 21 points to place 2nd runner up, and the 3rd runner-up position went to Kollision for “Wuk Up Session”(19 points). The December 26 J’Ouvert celebration was dominated by Red Devils’ Hawaiian Devils. The band amassed 295 points to be named J’OuvertTroupe of the Year. 1st runner-up went to Xtreme with 271 points and 2nd runner-up to Mas Jumbies and Small Axe/Shiggidy Shack’s Buccaneers vs Vikings with 266 points. Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas said he was pleased to see large crowds enjoying “high quality entertainment’through participation in the Carnival activities. He commended those who contributed to the success of the national event. “We must express our appreciation and give due recognition to our artistes and other outstanding exponents of our culture…who truly and magnificently showcased the exceptional talents and capabilities of our people, and brought great joy, excitement and pride to the massive crowds that witnessed and participated in the carnival celebrations this year.”
