Unity Coalition Leader Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris claims the Prime Minister is peddling the St. Kitts-Nevis passport as if it were black pudding. “Dr. Douglas is selling our passports like is black pudding he selling,’said the former government minister. Dr. Harris’ analogy came in response to Dr. Denzil Douglas’ parliamentary statements that St. Kitts-Nevis citizenship was a hot commodity for global citizens and demand was continually increasing. “I say that because of the manner in which things are happening in relation to the passport. It’s a very cavalier approach by the government to a serious matter of public concern and interest. The likening of the passports to black pudding was to reflect the ease with which persons, in particular those who are coming to the fold now, people of unsavory character, are able to put their hands on our passports,”he explained. Dr. Harris pointed out that just recently the Canadian government warned the Douglas-led administration that some of the persons accessing the St. Kitts-Nevis passports have been involved in fraudulent activities. “They have been able to use our passports to gain entry into Canada which otherwise would not have been available to them. This is a serious, serious matter.”He said when Dr. Douglas is ‘selling our patrimony and our passports in a callous, cavalier manner and without regard to international protocol, he is exposing us to economic terrorism”. The PLP Leader’s remarks echoed those of other Opposition Members in light of recent developments concerning an Iranian national who raised red flags when he entered Canada on a St. Kitts-Nevis diplomatic passport claiming he was there to see that country’s Prime Minister.
