Another of Nevis’ students excels and has been lauded for her efforts in receiving the best results in Test of Standards. Lekiah Lescott, 12, of the Maude Crosse Preparatory School attained 95%, 97%, 96%, and 96% passes in the areas of Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, respectively. In an interview with the Observer, Lescott spoke about her preparations and how happy she was. “I started studying from the beginning in September when school started, and I studied hard. I am very proud of myself and I am happy that I achieved my goals.”Lescott told the Observer that she would like to be an entrepreneur in the future after she has attended university, and encouraged her peers. “Try your best, set goals for yourself and set goals to achieve them.”According to her teacher, Ms. Collins, Lescott has been a committed student. “She is an excellent student, and she has not just performed in Grade 6, but she has been consistent with her averages throughout her school years. I’m extremely proud and I know that she is a student who would excel. This area is not much of a shock to me because she was prepared to deliver and that is exactly what she did.”Sharon Doras, her mother, spoke of her daughter’s academic personality. “I’m very excited and happy for her. She is a keen student, very focused and does her own work. Her studying has been an ongoing process [so] we’ve had no problems with her academically. We pray and we trust in God.”The federal test is administered to all primary schools at the end of the academic year in June. Lescott will continue her educational career in September, after she graduates on Wednesday (Jul 9). Congratulations are extended to Lekiah Lescott.
