Police have confirmed that one male believed to be a foreign national was this morning (Oct 1) fatally shot during a drug bust at Conaree. Police High Command held a press brief this afternoon and informed that acting on intelligence police observed what they suspected was a drug drop at a secluded beach on the country’s Atlantic side around 5am. A speed boat with two males neared the shore while a pickup with two males was parked on the beach. According to Acting Commissioner Stafford Liburd, upon the boat’s arrival the two occupants of the vessel, believed to be non-nationals, were “challenged” by police. “One occupant opened fire upon our officers. Our officers in defense returned fire and one of the occupants was fatally wounded,” he said. The deceased male was said to have been the one who fired at the officers. The other man on the boat was taken into custody. The occupants of the pickup attempted to flee the scene but were apprehended and taken into police custody. The two locals from the pickup are presently “assisting police with the ongoing investigation, Liburd said.
