St. Kitts-Nevis Patriots Take On Zouks In St Lucia Jermine Abel Story Updated: June 24th 2015 at 11:40 am
Under new management and brand, the popular St. Kitts-Nevis Patriots winged out to Castries, St Lucia on Monday for the team’s first match up in the 2015 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The Marlon Samuels-led Patriots will open its CPL campaign against St. Lucia Zouks headed by former West Indies captain, Darren Sammy. The match takes place this evening (June 24) at the Beausejour Stadium. Patriots Head coach Eric Simons said preparation for the tournament went well and they are looking forward for the competition to begin. “[Preparation] has gone well. These players came together recently and one of the things our senior pros have told us is that there is a change of atmosphere, and I think that is crucial for us… the change of atmosphere here in St. Kitts, it made us a happy team with good skills and good attitude,” he said. The team’s captain, during a recent downtown meet and greet with the public, asked fans for their support when the team plays on its home turf, Warner Park Stadium. He said the team is filled with young and developing players who need the ’12th man’ to show support. Samuels promised a good showing of cricket skills from the invigorated Patriots. “I think you should look forward to seeing the team play and you will be surprised.” Adding to the international cricket expertise on the Patriots is former Pakistan Captain Shahid Afridi. “I am here to perform well…there is a lot of expectation for me and I definitely I will try my best to do well,” Afridi said. The team is expected to make stopovers in St. Lucia and Barbados before bowling the first ball at Warner Park Stadium as the Federation’s franchise on June 30 th . A total of ten matches including a charity game is slated to take place in St. Kitts this summer.
