Police search operations discover one firearm, ammunition

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — A firearm was taken into Police custody on Wednesday, Nov. 14, following an operation in the West Farm area conducted by a team comprised of members of the Tactical Unit and the Regional Security Service (RSS).

The firearm, one 9 mm Smith and Wesson pistol, was found in an empty lot. Crime Scene Unit members in the Forensic Department arrived and processed the scene. They found one weapon and took it into custody for further analysis. No ammunition was found with the weapon.

During an operation on Thursday, Nov. 15, the same team found four 12-gauge shotgun rounds in an abandoned property in St. Johnston Village. The ammunition will be processed by Forensic Department members.

Police investigations into both finds will continue. The total number of firearms taken into Police custody to date now stands at 35.
