Two of St. Kitts top models seek to shake things up this summer.
Joy Wilson and Melissa Sebastian are just two of the twelve models that will be featured in the 2007 St. Kitts Swimsuit Calendar. Both of them will be making their second appearance in a swimsuit calendar since the Supermodels of St. Kitts calendar in 1999.
Both calendars are the brainchild of Kirah Griffin.
Wilson who describes herself as determined enjoys sleeping in her downtime, but is very outgoing and loves to make people laugh.
“I’m a comedian,” Wilson said. “I love being around people and making them laugh.”
Sebastian on the other hand is hoping to one day make an impact in the economy.
“I want to own whatever business I pursue but, it also depends on where I’m living, so that I can better target the market,” Sebastian said. “I’m outgoing, fun and love life. I’m also married and blessed with a beautiful daughter name Etalia.”
Wilson is career focussed as well she recently completed her Associates degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management and is hoping to make one of her dreams come through.
“Of course I want to become a professional model. But in the future I would eventually love to own my own exotic hotel and hopefully a chain of hotels,” she said.
Apart from the every day life of glitz and glam that most people see models as having they are also concerned with social issues that plague our society.
“Crime generally… I think most people think that when it happens it may only affect certain individuals. But on contrary,” Sebastian said. “It affects all of us as a Community and we need community watches and other measures put in place to help combat crime.”
Wilson also agrees with Sebastian and said that the social issue she feels strongly about is the deadly virus AIDS.
“We need to start educating the youths from a very young age about AIDS,” she said. “Also with the help of parents telling their children about the deadly disease that can help make a difference.”
This isn’t Wilson’s first newspaper feature, in fact she has been featured in the Newspapers in St. Maarten when she was at a young age.
“When I was younger and living in St. Maarten, I did a lot of road running and in one particular race when I was 9,” she said. “A car knocked me down but I got up and was able to continue and finish the race coming first in my age category, making the news.”
While Sebastian has other hidden talents she wants to pursue professionally.
“What most people don’t know is that I really want to become a professional singer, but I need the right training,” she said. “I’m not a runway model but I’ll do commercial and print modeling. However, if I will be seen in the public’s eyes as something it would be more as a singer than model.”
Clearly these two women are more than just beauty. They also have the ambition and desire to make a name for themselves outside of fashion.
