Police charge two brothers in gun, drugs find

By Monique Washington

After being in police custody for three days, two brothers have been charged with gun and drugs charges stemming from a police find June 14. The Observer confirmed Tuesday with a police public relations officer that the men were charged, but what the specific charges were is not yet known.

The Observer understands that Tivonne Bryant and his brother, Travonne Bryant, were both charged. The Observer further understands that one brother is a customs officer, while the other is an employee of the Nevis Air and Seaport Authority.

According to a police press release posted Friday, the joint operation between the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise Department June 14 resulted in the confiscation of a firearm, ammunition and drugs at the Vance Amory International Airport. One .357-caliber revolver with ammunition was recovered inside a DVD player, while several packages of a substance suspected to be cocaine were concealed in what appeared to be a colouring set.

Last year, Britany Paola Peets was convicted and sentenced to a total of four years in prison after she was caught trying to smuggle 2.5 kilos of cocaine through the Vance Amory International Airport.
