As the Federation count down the days to the staging of the 20th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival, Ambassador Jonel Powell has recommended that the Planning Committee and others involved have a strategic plan for artistes and marketing the event.

According to Ambassador, he has recommended that the Committee push to have talks with artistes so that they can to begin to market the Festival during the Carnival period, so that persons can plan and booking for June’s mega event.

This recommendation comes as the Festival competes with other music events on the international calendar.

One such event the Ambassador pointed to is the Black Entertainment Television or BET Awards which is being held the day after the event finishes this year.

My recommendation is that because in this year and in recent periods the Music Festival has been competing with BET and other international awards…my recommendation is that they start very early,” Powell said. “My recommendation is that they announce the artistes for the 2017 Music Festival in December, so that, we can take advantage of negotiations in terms of artistes even though it is further off.”

For a number of years, organizers have informed that they have had difficulties with locking in artistes to perform during the Festival.

But Powell reiterated that with the event draw a both regional and international tourist, announcing the names early could be a further boost.

“Simply to give the promoters in the world and in St. Kitts a better opportunity to put the sign out there. And as long as I am on board these could be implemented, but if not I have made the recommendations. We have to start promoting St. Kitts Music Festival  from St. Kitts Carnival  in December.”

The Organizers of the event recently announced the names of the final two acts that will be at the event – Arita Edmund and Rock City.

Powell who sits on the Committee is unsure if he will be part of the planning for the 2017 event but he noted that if these entertainers are locked to a contract to perform the legal proceedings could be taken if they decide that they cannot travel at the last minute.
For this year’s event the organizers announced the likes of 50 Cent, Damian Marley, Morgan Heritage to name of few.
