(Basseterre, St. Kitts) – Four men are now in custody on suspicion of murder in the case of Gregory Zakers, 20, of Basseterre, whose body was found about 9 a.m. on April 12 at Black Rocks.
No charges have been filed yet.
The first arrest was made on April 13, a 17-year-old male from St. Pauls.
On April 14, a man from Sandy Point was arrested after police found a number of incriminating items in the man’s car
The third and fourth arrests were made on April 15. The persons arrested were a 22-year-old male from St. Pauls and a 23-year-old male from Buckley’s Estate.
The police continue to await a post-mortem examination.
The killing of Mr. Zakers was the sixth homicide of 2008 in the Federation.
The first murder of 2008 in the Federation took place Jan. 28 on Nevis, when Mr. Leon Westerman, 28, was shot to death.
The second murder was that of Mr. Derrick Gumbs, Jr, 21, on March 11, who was shot death on St. Kitts.
The third and fourth murders were of Mr. Leon Willock, 20, and Mr. Orlando Williams, 25, whose bodies were found on March 18 on St. Kitts. Both were shot to death.
No one has been charged in the killing of Mr. Westerman, Mr. Gumbs, Mr. Willock or Mr. Williams
A man has been charged in the fifth murder committed in the Federation in 2008, according to the Royal St. Kitts-Nevis Police.
On Monday, April 7, Lionel Warner, alias “Shaggy” of Dieppe Bay was arrested and charged for the murder of Alphonso Richards, 25, alias “Bobo Hortical” of St. Pauls Village.
The murder was committed on Saturday, April 5. Mr. Warner allegedly stabbed Mr. Richards to death following a dispute.
