A new multimillion-dollar hospital is scheduled to replace the dilapidated Pogson Hospital in Sandy Point some time next year.
According to Minister of Health Hon. Rupert Herbert, funds earmarked for the rebuilding of the hospital over seven years ago, were diverted to rebuild J. N France General Hospital in Basseterre.
Since health officials discontinued the use of the old Pogson hospital, they had operated an emergency wing on the opposite side of the street in a building once used as a clinic.
Herbert thanked the people of the area for their patience over the years and said his administration was proud to finally be granting their wish.
“It’s been a long process but I am happy that it went according to plan. Though many persons tendered bids to construct the facility, the winner was a Chinese construction company. I believe that they will do an excellent job and hopefully deliver the project completed on budget and on time. We hope that the people of Sandy Point will appreciate the efforts made to ensure that this hospital is reconstructed,” Herbert said.
He said he would like Sandy Pointers and people from the surrounding areas to co operate at all times with the persons working there to make sure they got a building they could be proud of.
The new 5.7 million dollar facility is expected to be completed by October 2008.
