ARRESTED

Kelvin George of Pitcairn Street was on Monday 14th July 2008 arrested and charged with the offence of carrying abroad an offensive weapon.

Keith Rhymer of Basseterre was arrested and charged on Monday 14th July 2008 with the offence of malicious damage. The offence occurred on 11th July 2008.

Cliff David of Government Road, Nevis, was arrested and charged on Monday 14th July 2008 with the offence of malicious damage. The offence was committed on 11th July 2008.

Neville Fahie of Stoney Grove, Nevis, was arrested and charged on Monday 14th July 2008 with the offences of making use of insulting and indecent language, refusing to give name and resisting arrest.

Osquin Morton of Newton Ground Village was on Thursday 10th July 2008 arrested and charged with the offences of possession of cannabis and carrying abroad an offensive weapon.

Keith Rhymer of Basseterre was on Friday 11th July 2008 arrested and charged with the offence of carrying abroad an offensive weapon.

Javon Daniel of Cotton Ground, Nevis, was arrested and charged on Friday 11th July 2008 with the offences of carrying abroad an offensive weapon and failing to give his name when requested to do so by a police officer.

Thomas Abraham and Vincent Huggins of Saddlers Village were both arrested and charged on Friday 11th July 2008 with the offence of possession of cannabis.

Sharmarc Howe of St. Johnson Village was arrested and charged on Sunday 13th July 2008 with the offence of house breaking and larceny.

Mikhail Manners of Nevis was arrested and charged on Saturday 12th July 2008 with the offense of carrying abroad an offensive weapon.

Satyavan Gaylall of Bath Plains, Nevis, was on Saturday 12th July 2008 arrested and charged with the offenses of driving without insurance and for driving without a valid and unexpired license.

COURT CONVICTIONS

Rudel Isaac of Conaree Village appeared before the District ‘A’ Magistrate Court on Monday 14th July 2008 to answer the charge of wounding that was brought against him. He was convicted and sentenced to six months in prison. The offence occurred on 19th June 2008.

Jamie Liburd of St. Peters who was charged with the offence of wounding appeared before the court and was convicted and fined $750.00 in four months or one month in prison. Liburd was also ordered to keep away from Josh Desuza of La Guerite for a two year period. Desuza was wounded by Liburd on 24th October 2007.

Eldeane Phipps of Saddlers also appeared before the said Court and was convicted and cautioned for the offences of battery and malicious damage. Phipps was ordered to pay a total of $1,000.00 in compensation to Kethlin Skelton of Phillips Village, who was beaten by Phipps on 25th September 2007. If the fine is not paid in six months, Phipps will serve two months in prison.

Gavin Boddie of Fry’s Village also appeared before the said Court and was convicted and ordered to pay $850.00 in two months or serve two months in prison for the offence of possession of cannabis, which was committed on 7th February 2008.

POLICE OPERATIONS

On Thursday 10th and Friday 11th July 2008, Police conducted routine Traffic checks and vehicle inspections around Basseterre.  Eighteen Vehicles were Inspected and found to have dark tinted windows and or windscreens. They were required to remove the tint from the vehicles.  Over twenty traffic tickets were issued for offences ranging from driving with defective number plate to driving unlicensed vehicle.

On Friday 11th July 2008 members of the Security Forces conducted operations in the Newtown, Conaree, Mc Knight, The Village and Monkey Hill areas. Several persons were stopped and searched for illegal drugs, arms and ammunition along with a number of vehicles and abandoned houses. Lewis Powell of College Street was arrested and charged for possession of cannabis and Kirk Reid of Basseterre was arrested and charged obstruction.

Police on Nevis conducted similar operations on Saturday 12th July 2008 and several persons as well as vehicles were stopped and searched for illegal drugs, arms and ammunition. Shawn Powell and Vere Henry both of Craddock Road were arrested and charged with the offence of possession of cannabis after a search revealed that they were each carrying a quantity of marijuana.

Further operations were conducted on Sunday 13th July 2008 by members of the Police Force and a number of search warrants were executed on several premises in the Basseterre area for illegal drugs, arms and ammunition.      A quantity of marijuana was found at the premises of Sherlon Cannonier of Neverson Street East and taken into custody. Cannonier was also taken into custody.  One silencer and a large quantity of marijuana were found on an unoccupied premises.  No one was held accountable.

COURT CONVICTION

Donnel Browne of Conaree Village who was charged with the offence of careless driving, appeared before the District ‘B’ Magistrate Court on Friday 11th July 2008 and was convicted and ordered to pay $700.00 in one month or serve one month in prison.

OPERATIONS

Members of the security forces conducted a number of operations in the Newtown, Mc Knight and Monkey Hill areas on Thursday 10th July 2008 for illegal drugs, arms and ammunitions. A number of abandoned buildings and persons were searched. A quantity of marijuana was seized during the operation including 41 marijuana plants. The plants ranged in height from seedlings to four feet. No one was held accountable for the find.

Members of the security forces also executed a search warrant on Thursday 10th July 2008 on the premises of Curt Duncan of Sarah Bowry, Upper Cayon, for control drugs, arms and ammunition and items used in the commission of a crime. A number of marijuana plants were found and taken into custody. A 17 year old juvenile was found at the residence and was also taken into custody. Investigations into this matter are ongoing.

SHOOTING AT KEYS VILLAGE

On Thursday 10th July 2008 at about 8 p.m Police responded to a report of shooting at Keys Village in the area known as Four Miles.  Investigations reveal that an unknown masked assailant, opened fire on Leon Isaac of Conaree, as he left his keys home. Isaac managed to escape unhurt.  Investigations are ongoing.

TRAFFIC COURT CONVICTIONS

Norris Martin of College Housing appeared before the District ‘A’ Magistrate Court on Thursday 10th July 2008 and was convicted and fined $500.00 forthwith for the offence of careless driving.

Orlando Herbert of Irish Town also appeared before the said court and was convicted for driving without a valid driver’s licence, driving without insurance, and driving an unregistered vehicle. He was fined $300.00 to be paid in one week or 14 days in prison, $800.00 in 2 months or 2 months in prison and $200.00 in one week or serve 14 days in prison respectively. He was also disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver’s license for 12 months.

Challengers resident Roy Nias who was charged with careless driving was convicted by the court and ordered to pay $600.00 in two weeks or serve 14 days in prison.

Wilfred Welsh also of Challengers was similarly convicted for the offence of careless driving and ordered to pay $600.00 in one day or 14 days in prison.

CONVICTIONS

Daren Patrick of Tabernacle Village who was charged with the offence of possession of cannabis appeared before the District ‘B’ Magistrate Court on Tuesday 15th July 2008 and was convicted and ordered to pay $800.00 in three months or serve three months in prison.

Sandy Point resident, Chino Evans, also appeared before the said court and he was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison for the offence of larceny.

Shawn Powell of Craddock Road appeared before the District ‘C’ Magistrate Court on Tuesday 15th July 2008 and was convicted for the offence possession of cannabis and ordered to pay $1,500.00 within two months or serve six months in prison. The offence was committed on 12th July 2008 when police conducted an operation in Jessups Village and Powell was found with the drugs in his possession.

Vere Henry of also Craddock Road appeared before the said court to answer the charge of possession of cannabis and he too was convicted and was ordered to pay $1,000.00 within two months or serve two months in prison. Henry committed the offence on 12th July 2008 when during a routine stop and search operation in Charlestown; he was found carrying the illegal drugs.

Abraham Thomas of Saddlers Village who was charged with the offence of possession of cannabis, appeared before the court and was convicted for the offence and fined $1,500.00 payable in three months or he will serve three months in prison. Thomas was found carrying the drugs on 11th July 2008 during an operation at Cades Bay.

Government Road resident, Cleave David, also appeared before the District ‘C’ Magistrate Court and was fined $500.00 for malicious damage, an offence he committed on 11th July 2008. The fine must be paid in one month or he will serve one month in prison. In addition, David was ordered to pay $500.00 in compensation to Stefbirth Sergeant of KGS Health and Beauty, whose store window was broken by David with a bottle. The compensation must be paid within one month or he will have to serve one month in prison.
