BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -– Senior Minister and Minister of Labour, Ecclesiastical Affairs and Social Security, the Honourable Vance Amory, recognised the exemplary performance of employees in his ministry during the second annual Staff Appreciation Awards Ceremony on Dec. 21, at the Solid Waste Management Corporation Conference Room.
“Today we are here to thank all of you, especially the Department of Labour because you are in the firing line and at the forefront of what we do as a ministry,” Minster Amory said. “I want to thank all of you for your effort throughout the past year and for your dedication, loyalty and commitment.”
The presentation of awards for 2018 included most outstanding units, leadership, administrative support, auxiliary staff and most outstanding unit officers’ awards.
Amory noted that emotional intelligence speaks to the success of organizations because it is fundamentally rooted in how an organization treats its employees.
“There are things which happen within an organization and among people which could either make or break an organization,” Amory said. “Sometimes we do not pay attention to those things. As one who has worked with people most of my life, I value recognizing people.
“The appreciation of the human element within an organization can make a substantial difference in the output of the employees and noted that since he took office in 2015, the focus has been to give the ministry a new image to elevate it to a higher standard.
“I think over the last couple years, we have in fact managed to gain that recognition by the work which you as the Department of Labour staff does and the way that you have responded to the call to elevate the image of the department and the ministry.”
The minister encouraged the staff to keep a positive attitude inside and outside of the workplace because it makes a difference.
