The Indian Castle Fisherfolk Association is set to put on its fifth annual fishing tournament May 7 with and a brand new Hyundai Creta jeep will be up for raffle.
The event is scheduled to run from10 am to 10 pm at the Indian Castle landing site in Gingerland.
President of the Association Steven Mackie’ Moore said the association, which began in June of 2013, will be celebrating its five year anniversary and now has more than 30 members.
He noted that this will be the second time the Association will be raffling a vehicle at the fishing tournament. Tickets are available from any member of the association at the cost of EC $50. He said that besides the fishing tournament the associations as contributed to other groups and to high school students on the islands.
“We are primarily a fishing club but we do a lot of social work. We support the prostate screen (which is held annually in January), we donated to the Renal Society and we have sponsored the best Agricultural student in Gingerland Secondary for the past two years,” he said.
“In addition,” he said, “For our third anniversary we gave gift baskets to the elderly in the different communities.”
Speaking on the activities planned for May 7, Moore said that fishermen are scheduled to commence fishing from 5 am to 4 pm. The fishers will participate two categories, finger fishing and set line fishing. He noted that the tournament is opened to any and all fishermen in the Federation, Montserrat and Antigua with the registration EC $150.
The fisherman who catches the most will win the grand prize of $2500.
Spectators will be entertained by swimsuit models, masqueraders, music, food among other things. But the highlight of the day will be who wins the vehicle.
