BASSETERRE, St. Kitts –- A workshop to increase the level of awareness about the application of food safety and animal and plant health regulations began on Nov. 13 and ends today at the National ICT Centre.
The workshop is hosted by the Ministry of International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs in collaboration with the World Trade Organization (WTO). It will provide nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis with the opportunity to share their experiences and challenges faced with the implementation of the SPS Agreement.
This initiative is part of an ongoing effort between the government of St. Kitts and Nevis and the World Trade Organisation to ensure that plant and plant products are free from regulated pests and conform to phytosanitary requirements specified by the importing country.
The SPS Agreement was initiated by the WTO in January 1995. It concerns the application of food safety and animal and plant health regulations.
