BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – Barbadian superstar Rihanna has entered the political scene of her homeland by openly throwing her support to Barbados Labour Party Leader Mia Mottley in Frrday’s general election.
She expressed her support for Mottley, in reply to a post by her friend Leandra Goodridge on Instagram.
Mottley yesterday took over Bajantube for the day, ahead of tomorrow’s general elections, and Goodridge reposted a video of her, with the caption: “Watching my next prime minister all day on @bajantube stories!!!”
About an hour and a half later, Rihanna commented: “Yeeeeeeeeessssssssssssss she deserves it!!!!!”
Her post created a buzz, and Mottley, whose BLP is seeking to unseat the incumbent Democratic Labour Party, made a short video which she posted on Instagram, thanking the superstar for the endorsement of sorts, before doubling back to thank Goodridge for the love she had shown as well.
If Mottley’s BLP wins the next general elections, she is expected to become the country’s first female prime minister.
Apart from the DLP and the BLP, five other new parties and several independents will be contesting the polls.
