The first annual St. Kitts Gospel Festival gets underway this Friday at the Newtown Football Field at 8pm. The concert is the St. Kitts and Nevis leg of the five year old Caribbean Gospel Music Tours, founded by Trinidad and Tobago gospel artist Curtis Jordan. The event this Friday will feature several artists from the Caribbean including Curtis Jordan, Keron ‘D Furnace’ Thomas, Nigel Lopez and Brandon Best all from Trinidad and Tobago. The event also includes Graypatch and D Anointed Vale from Jamaica and Shawn Jacquet from St. Maarten. Several local artists will be on the event including Nyquan, Tehillah, Radikal Praise, Dominic Brookes, M1 and Ikena. All of these artists except Radical Praise and M1 are part of a local gospel music record label JIFE Music (www.jifemusic.com), which is one of the organizers of the concert along with the Unleash Youth Ministry in St. Kitts. The style of music features various genres including hip hop, soca, reggae, dancehall and R and B.
The Unleash Youth Ministry have been hosting the St. Kitts and Nevis leg of the Caribbean Gospel Music Tour now for three years, previously branded as the Unleash Experience. This year, branded as the St. Kitts Gospel Festival, the event includes more than just a gospel concert. The visiting artists tour schools across the country to do workshops and ministry with the students. This year, they are targeting 10 primary and high schools that will be visited this year are the Verchilds High School, Newton Ground Primary School, Charlestown Secondary School, Ivor Walters Primary School in Nevis, Gingerland Secondary School, Cayon High School, Violet Petty Primary School among several others. They also will be doing ministry with inmates at Her Majesty’s Prison. Among the schools last year they visited nine schools and made positive impacts on the lives of the students. Unlike previous years, the concert this year will have an admission cost. Adults will pay $25 and children $15. For tickets, persons can call 763-9463, 662-2200 or 760-4619.
